Anyone have a quick remedy for this? Out of warranty. Was turning into the driveway today and heard a pop and now the steering shaft is loose. Can’t tell if the bearing moved or if I am just too dumb to figure out how to snap the clip back in.

Well, that video answered all my questions I had on the pictures. It appears the clip was retained by the crimping of the sides of the steering column. Not something that is going to be easy to work on while in the truck. May I make a suggestion: While you state the vehicle is no longer in warrantee, this maybe a safety issue which the dealer/Toyota may indeed wish to address. NHTSA might very well like to hear about this problem.

Yes, can confirm it is not something easy to work with while in the truck. I may end up pulling the column and trying to snap it back in that way. I say not under warranty because of mileage AND the truck is heavily modified on 35's and my local dealer already hates me and denied a few warranty claims due to the truck being modified. I would much rather deal with it myself and get on with life. But that is a good point about the NHTSA. Thank you.

Yeah, I understand the dealer issues; I've not found a good Toyota dealer since I was neighbors with a Service Manager, that was 45 years ago. I also like doing things myself than deal with some BS, just seems easier and I get the experience of doing the work. Rewarding!

I did have one other thought and that is to contact NSK, the manufacture of the Steering System. Perhaps they would like it back for evaluation, or perhaps knows of some way to get Toyota to address the issue. Or an easy fix.
