i'm not really interested in 4th gen but if somehow I needed a new truck I'd give it a look. Hopefully after it has been out a year or more so kinks can be worked out. As far as turbo maintenance goes I don't think that will be any issue for someone who is regular on that like me. my Last vehicle was a Jeep Liberty CRD which has a 4 banger turbo diesel engine. I was a bit scared going in to owning it id have turbo issues. In 12 years of owning it, daily driving, some towing and selling it with 165,000 miles it still ran good. I just went by what the owners manual asked for for the severe service schedule for oil changes and most everything else that was reasonable. they wanted 6,000 or 12.000 mile OCI's with full synthetic oil. I used Rotella T6 5w40 every 6.000 never had an engine or turbo issue. Turbo cool down wasn't a problem. You never needed to idle the engine too much to cool the turbo. they did recommend 30-90 seconds if you were driving and at highway speeds, towing ect, the reality was with daily driving where I'd be under 35-40 mph the last part of the trip by the time you put in park unbuckle the seat belt and pick up your phone you would be good. Most of us don't have our driveway directly off an freeway off ramp.

Now the transmission god help you there with a Chrysler tranny, even with fluid changed mine had a rebuild around 100,000. I do the same sort of thing with the tacoma. Oil changes are important for long trouble free life.

I think we can probably trust Toyota to do a better job with testing and engineering making for a more reliable product than Chrysler/Stalantius whatever they are called now. Give it a year or so and there should be no fear of the 4th gen. we will see how it performs and all in the real world. let suckers that have to have the newest version of everything and deeper pockets try it out just like any new model of any make.

That may be but his logic on this seems quite reasonable!

Ok...I watch about 45 seconds from where you had the video marked. Guy is a freaking idiot. Instead of getting all worked up he could simple say to make sure they shave down the new tire to match the other so you dont have that problem.

I had tagged a few SR5s, one Pro, one special edition and one offroad and was watching them. started about a month ago. this was the special edition and it had been listed around 49 or 50 when i tagged it. I was trying to watch to see if the fluctuation of pricing was across the board or if it was individual dealers... that played with cost over/under MSRP. Someone (TacoJay) had posted about trading in a baseline SR on a PRO and it made me wonder if the dealerships or the mothership was calling for making better deals to evacuate inventory.

Thanks JB for that link, I hadn't ever tried to figure that out before... now i know how.

Unfortunately. What a moron, he clearly didn’t do any research on the new engine. If he did he would realize the 2.4l makes peak torque much lower in the rpm band than the outgoing v6. Also 30 mpg on the highway? What a load of horseshit. How many morons will repeat this garbage after seeing this video.

It's not Toyota doing it. It's the dealer adding markup.

That’s probably true but 2.7s peak tq numbers are pretty pathetic. I would say the v6 has more torque at any given RPMs.

Someone post a couple dyno charts plz! :)

Scotty is full of shit. There's easily a half inch difference in the front and rear tires' rolling diameters just from weight distribution. I ran a mismatched setup with three 32" tires and a 31" spare for over 1100 miles with no issues: ABS/VSC worked fine. 2hi/4hi switching worked fine. Adaptive cruise control worked fine.

It’s not the same engine as the 2.7, it’s a new 2.4l turbo that has been used in several lexus models and the new highlander. The hybrid max version in the taco will make 465 torque at only 1700 rpm. The v6 makes peak torque of 265 at a high 4600 rpm. So 200 more torque below 2000 rpm, an actual truck powertrain.

That's all well and good and sounds great on paper but sucking that much out of a 2.4 L - 4 cylinder has to take a toll on longevity. It may also take away from the longevity being used in a truck vs. being used in a small light car.
