    All,

My neighbor jumped all over my proposition of selling my truck to him because he knows how I take care of my vehicles. It is a extended cab 5 speed 4X4 SR5 290K miles I was willing to sell for 7K but my wife questioned my sanity reminding me how I am the original owner and am very OCD about my maintenance. I have every record of all fluid changes since I have owned it and do ALL the work myself. This truck looks nearly new, paint is a 9 out of 10 after recent ceramic coat. Never been off road, completely stock with the exception of alarm system (after cat was stolen), back up sensor on license plate frame. Fluid filmed every other year, frame good and rust free.

I was thinking about getting a 3rd gen 4Runner to replace my truck.

She thinks it is worth more than 7K. She suggested going out to the experts (you) to verify her thoughts. Perhaps my wife is correct again???

Well $7k would be fair pre covid…
You could prob get $10k if you’re willing to post it online and wait around.
But then you’ll have to deal with scammers and flakes wasting your time so…you may as well be neighborly and sell it to him for $7k

Good points. Additionally, the 4Runner had 218K miles and was priced at 7K but needed work to bring it up to my standards. Then there is the potential sellers remorse, see a lot of that on here!

I paid $9k for mine in early 2021 (same specs except with the V6) with 270k miles, and some serious clear coat peeling and paint chips along the hood.

$7k sounds a little low to me. I think $9-11k would be a more fair price point.

The question is, what's your neighbor willing to pay?

I would buy the 4Runner and keep the Tacoma just in case… ill bet you will regret selling your 1st gen Tacoma.

7K for a 300k odometer is fair in this market. Some people lately have been thinking its worth twice that, and in reality you might be able to get 10 if you wade through a mountain of tire kickers and hem-hawers (as was all mentioned above.)

How close are you to this neighbor, and is 2-3k worth the friendship and the time savings of not dealing with the unwashed masses? If it were me, I'd settle for 7. Bird in hand.

All kinds 3 inch body lift/2 1/2 suspension lift. 31/11 1/2/15 tires All work done by myself for years. The only work performed by mechanic was fuel pumps. I also have a 90 Mustang 350 hp and I can never understand how come my Tacoma gets more respect Just got a 99 Jeep TJ that I rebuilt, and painted in the garage
Are you ok with watching your neighbor drive your truck for ten more years. If your a truck guy who likes a clean truck sell it and buy one that you will enjoy fixing up cosmetically. I only keep mine because Im a painter and its got paint inside, but if I was retired or clean I would sell. I like to keep them pretty.

Let’s see pictures. If this is a mistake you will be reminded of it everyday as you pull into your driveway. Definitely want to know that you’re ready to move on. I personally would feel shitty asking my neighbor for more than $7-8k for a 300k mile truck. If you wanna find some lunatic to give you $10k go for it but your neighbor should be offered a more realistic and fair price.

Question is did you offer it to your neighbor at that price already? It would make you look a bit bad if you go back on your word to make a few more bucks on it. But yes 7k is a little on the low end. Even KBB has it listed with that many miles from 7500-10500 Ann assuming yours is in excellent condition anything above 8500 is good in my opinion

Some of the varying valuation will come from different regional perspectives. As a California resident I would say based on your description $7k would be on the low end, with a good chance it would sell for more. Being neighborly shouldn't require you leaving thousands on the table.

If I were to sell a truck I really liked I’d want it far away, so I wouldn’t have to see it every day. It’ll bug you if your neighbor doesn’t take as good care of it as you have or he might be coming around asking you all sorts of questions and for help with stuff which could get old. If you like the guy and don’t mind him coming around and seeing your truck in someone else’s driveway daily I’d go for like 7-8k like others have said. You can probably get 10k but is it worth the time and hassle?

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Had you quoted the $7,000.00 price to your neighbor Yet?

That is the real Question. I would give a neighbor a vehicle but never sell you could open yourself to hear about every little issue.

Just a change in driving style can cause interesting problems that have nothing to do with you.

Best of Luck no matter how things play out.

That’s another thing, if the engine blows up or the tranny falls out a week after you sell it to him for any reason, it will likely cause a rift in your relationship. Guess it depends how you feel about the guy.

Your wife may be smarter than you realize and she's trying to get you to sell it to someone you don't know. It's already been mentioned that your neighbor may not treat your truck nicely... but how would you feel if the guy was always asking you about anything he broke or that started to vibrate?

I had a friend that sold a well used car to a guy that was moving two states away... and when the guy got where he was going the transmission started to seep. The guy called and expected the seller to pay to fix the leak. When he refused the guy tried to sue him. Some pretty normal seeming people end up being nut cases.

And why don't you edit the original post and put the year in?
