haha, had suspected the MRA shock would be mentioned due to the adjustability. With the former F150 I had Rancho 9000's for that reason. So, for the 220 and IMS shocks with the 302 spring, I understand that if I purchased both shocks with the 302 spring, the 220 would have 3.6 inches of lift and and the IMS would have 1.6 inches of lift, is this right or wrong? If so, it would seem the 220 is over-sprung and under-dampened. (Keeping this caged to a Tacoma with no additional weight such as bumpers and winch.)

Edit: I think I need to let this go and research adjustable shocks.

Incorrect. The GS59-220 struts have a taller coil seat that adds 1" of lift (2.6" lift with the C59-302 coils, don't know how you came up with 3.6"), but they're also longer in stroke, so it's not preloading the coil more. The IMS59-50220 are extended travel, and again, it depends where you set the coil seat for what lift height you'll get.

Ok, last question. If I order the MRA with selections of stock weight and 1.5 inches of lift, what spring does it come with and is it pre-assembled?

My mistake, the "MRA" in the last post was an error. "IMS" is what I'm using to compare with the 220.

Did some digging to recall how I came up with the 3.6 inches of lift. Here's what is not clear:

302 spring to produce 1.6 inches of lift.

Install this 302 spring on the 220 shock that because of the spring perch height, there is an additional one inch of preload. This brings the lift height to 3.6 inches, right?

It's not 1" of preload, it's 1/2" of preload that adds 1" of lift.

GS59-220 - Twin Tube - extended length, adds 1" lift to coil lift height (2.5-3.5")

What is the working angle for the dobinson uca ball joint?

It's the same as the OEM ball joint, but the cup that holds the ball joint is rotated so that it's basically flat once lifted, so then the joint is under no binding at the lifted ride height.

Dobinsons don't have a "it's this angle" measurement for them.

So in a sense better angle at droop because of the ball cup vs oem? looking to get into the Mrr set up. Currently have the std jba uca but looking to see if the tubular dob uca will work the same or better.

JBA use a very different ball joint and they can flex too much and hit the coilover at full droop due to the large area their ball joints used. Dobinsons have more clearance on the inside and outside edge of the ball joint cup than those. Dobinsons definitely allow the proper droop amount to work with the extended travel struts they run.

Stock arm ball joints are flush with the arm, so they bind before allowing enough droop to run extended travel struts and get the full droop out of them.

    Thanks for the responses..
Also I see you can change out the ball joint when needed. Is it the same for the bushings? Won’t have to drill them out like some leaf packs?

Yes on the ball joints. OEM bushings in UCA's are quite tricky to press out, not much different than a leaf spring. I've never had to sell replacements for the Dobinsons though. If properly installed and torqued on the ground, they'll last a very long time.

Which Dobinsons coil spring should I get if I want to achieve 1.5" of lift once everything has settled? The coils will be paired with Bilstein 5100 on lowest setting. Stock front end (no winch or aftermarket bumper). Rear lift provided by 1.5" 3-lead AAL. Stock front end (no winch or aftermarket bumper).

Yeah, but you wouldn't be able to describe how you want them to change from how they come, since you don't have them yet.
