That looks exactly like moisture under the clear coat. I had it on my 22 Lunar rock, my 22 Midnight black pro, and a few spots on my 23 solar octane pro. A heat gun and patience and going slowly will get rid of the spots.

@ridefreak Yeah, I thought it was odd too. Both the Salesman and Service Manager said, and I quote "vehicle's randomly get pulled all the time for no reason, other than a QC". I agree though... you would think that for getting pulled for QC that those defects would be noticed. Apparently, they aren't checking good enough!

@NomadicCypress Wow... that does look almost identical to the repaint they just did on my hood. However, I still think they need to re paint it. As I mentioned, my hood is now sitting lower on the side that had the issue, so now my wiper fluid just hits the bottom of it and sprays all over. When I noticed it, I popped the hood to see if I could fix it and noticed at the very top of the hood where the sprays would be, in the middle it looks like they did a bad tape job maybe? There's a very noticeable piece in the middle along the edge that is not smooth and looks very jaggy. Sort of like the clear coat or something didn't dry flat and smooth.

Thanks for that photo! I may show the shop to see if they have any feedback on it!

I guess I wouldn’t be complaining about a repaint as long as it was a quality job. But if you see any more spots pop up on a panel that doesn’t have any other defects I’d try the heat gun on it!

Just have Toyota repaint the entire truck and be done with it.

@lynlan1819 If only things were that simple - I'm sure this request wouldn't go over well if I went in requesting this.

@NomadicCypress I'll definitely try this if I notice anymore spots once everything has been resolved. This may be a stupid question, but in the summer heat shouldn't the sun take care of this in a similar way too?

I understand that, but if you have as many spots that look bad as on your truck,it's probably easier for Toyota just too repaint the whole truck

yup! I left the spots on my solar octane since they were covered with a clear bra and they went away in the few days we had 100+ in eastern WA

that is my conclusion as well, it was just your standard port fix. Many new cars/trucks have damage repair before the car ever gets to the dealer. It happens.

I think the repair on LR is more obvious because of the color and the way the paint looks like a different color depending on time of day.

    Thought I'd update this issue.

After speaking with the dealerships body shop manager, he explained the following -

    1. The initial spots on the hood and tailgate were dirt under the clear coat that was not caught during the building process.
    2. The smokey/fogginess after the hood repaint was just a bad fading and the jaggedness at the top of the hood along the edge was from where the taped it off. The hood was repainted, and these were both fixed (have not gotten truck back yet).
    3. The hood was not aligned properly which was causing the passenger wiper fluid nozzle to spray fluid all over the place. They also mentioned the passenger spray nozzle was loose and replaced it with an OEM Toyota nozzle.

I'll also mention that they told me they did not remove the hood when they originally repainted it, so the alignment/nozzle issue were factory defects. I guess I just never noticed them before having this.

If you haven't bought a Tacoma yet and plan on it, definitely make sure to go over it VERY well as Toyota is apparently getting a bit lazy with their QC. Hopefully this helps others in the future!
