    New user here.
My new Tacoma is on a boat so I’m hoping to bring it home in the next month or so but I’m wondering if anyone here has experience in hand throttle controls on these trucks. Specifically, I want to know if I will be able to install one of the aftermarket throttle response tuners.
    Thanks for any insight.

Look around on here. I've seen a couple ADA converted trucks to hand throttle and brake controls.

I appreciate that, but no luck. Lots of amputee jokes about the rear seat though lol. I’ll keep hunting or find out the hard way.

I saw your question the other day and then got sidetracked by a squirrel or something.

What's an aftermarket throttle tuner? Are you referring to a pedal commander and similar?

Those things plug into the OBD port, so if hand controls these days need that interface, it might be an issue. (I'm no expert on these controls, the last ones I've seen used mechanical links to the throttle cable)

Personally, I'd recommend an actual tune over the throttle box. Those can be tailored to work with modifications as they are a true ECU remap instead of a patch on top of a patch, and they have the added benefit of not cluttering up the cab with yet another box.

    Thanks!
Pedal commander is the one I’ve seen most often. The hand throttle I have ordered is an electronic version. I have the cable style in my car and it leaves a little to be desired.
Based on your insight I’ll start looking for a local shop to do a tune.
    Thanks again!

I would drive the truck first. See how you like it. Then tune if you feel the need.

Probably good advice. I’m buying it without even being able to test drive it but planning ahead just in case.

Hand control compatibility is an ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) term that indicates a hand throttle and brake set-up for lower extremity disabled persons to be able to drive a car. That’s what I gathered from the tile of your post. Then you state that you need a pedal commander. For clarity and to give you help, what are you after, hand controls to drive the vehicle or looking to increase the throttle response? A pedal commander has nothing to do with ADA hand controls for a vehicle.

I should have been more clear on the details.
The hand control I’m getting is an electronic version. With no right leg, it’s a necessity. I don’t need a pedal commander, but it sounds like an option to improve throttle response. The throttle set up https://brandonmobility.com/products/sure-grip-featherlite-hand-controls?variant=40379133427771
Comes with a “city mode” switch so I’m unsure of the compatibility between the two and thought maybe I would find someone on here who had knowledge of the setup.

All the complaints I've seen on the PC are it randomly causes Tacoma's to go into limp mode, throws codes and bucks and stutters/hesitates.

I have the OTT tune since May and zero issues, codes or problems. The throttle response and acceleration are excellent. She has what I need when I need it. The truck was a turd before I got it tuned. It had zero pickup and go and no ability to safely accelerate and merge into traffic. I almost sold it to buy a Tundra.
