Heck yeah, no trailers and 3-4 truck parties for the exploring trips. When we scout the NMW trip we do the 3 of us and it's all cab camping essentially. I'm set up for it so it's normal for me  But if you get turned around or need to get through a tight bit, 12 trucks takes a while.

Ah! Yeah that's the one, then, awesome. Yeah I wanted to get up there, how was the road in? I read on IO that it was kinda tight, would it be easy enough for a teardrop behind a tacoma? (Not mine, someone else, although there are thoughts of a popup in my future  )

It's just me, or just me and dog, though. For 2 people absolutely. I'm already planning a trip up to NH to do a couple hikes with the wife, that will be tented for sure.

Oh really? didn't know that, nice! We'll have to get something out for next year. I've met a bunch of people from NY on a couple trips but don't know them well, I was going to ping @mabepossibly for what he knows of the Adirondacks.

The lower spots are pruisable, going further up was subaruable last year but all the rain made the road more fun. Mostly easy but there is one spot where its washed out and tilts the cab towards rocks. I think its still stock truckable with good tires and I have no idea about a trailer, I've never towed one offroad. Probably never will unless it has a boat on it for NMW.

This is all free camping right? I know in ct there are no “set up “”. On your own areas.
Here we have picnic areas with a fence around them. It’s like they’re saying here’s what other people enjoy but you can’t!

This place in VT is free, there are a bunch in VT and NH. The North maine woods is not, its a cool setup though with the sites spread miles apart. As for Bills driveway I would take a guess it is free as long as you provide him a dozen donuts.

Yeah this is all boondocking/free camping. CT is a crap show for this. RI is even worse. MA has a few spots here and there. VT and NH have a TON of free open spots. Just don't be a dink, more are getting shut down due to, shockingly, high use and disrespect, leaving trash, etc. ME has a lot less free sites than you'd think, the whole northern half of the state is owned by the logging companies, gotta pay to get in. But there's still a bunch of free boondock sites too. Once you get up into syrup land, that is a whole foreign (literally) land to me. I have a few trips I want to make up there, but that's a ways out.

I camped out in my back yard. Because of the ct. lack of free camping. I looked around when Laconia was happening but never pulled the trigger. Trailer the bike set up camp and leave the wife and dogs. But nowadays that’s asking for a plot in a murder series. Lol

Theres this place right by me that supposedly has really good donuts. Beers good too.
    https://www.northwoodsbrewingcompany.com/

I wouldnt even say theyre closing to high use. Its cause of all the other BS. One site in NH that we were at had a 5 gallon bucket, that must've had 2 gallons of "contents". As well as the whole site just trash everywhere.

People need to learn the magic of a poopin shovel...

Nah bike week is pretty good. Bikers used to be bikers, nowadays it's Steve from Accounting.

Yeah, living down in RI/CT, you gotta pay to play - gotta get up into the mountains, I think the closest spot I can (legally) camp is 3 hours. There might be some spots around Sunnappee that are free and legal, but that's still about 2.5 anyway, not like it's right around the corner.

I got some less-than-legal spots closer, but they're also not amazing spots, either.

Yeah! East Beach. I think it's about 50 a year for residents, it's open a lot more than the cape is because of the plovers, but it's pretty small back there. Mostly geared toward people fishing. Same deal as camping on the cape, gotta be 100% self contained etc etc. Can go out there for the day without all that, but camping is locked down pretty tight.

"Heavenly Views" on iOverlander if you use the map near Granville VT.

Great spot. Narrow but I've gone up to the end in 2wd. Most people don't bother trying to go up.

If you go along the creek to the end, there's some wheeling in the back too that I didn't want to lead my BIL quite yet. Looks fun, not sure how far it goes. I like that I can fly the drone there lol.

Lots of trail systems around there, did some bigger mud puddles with my BIL in Sept and crawled like two whole boulders. Kind of where I'm at wheeling wise anyway lol. But yeah we've driven for hours just dirt road trails from one to another. Seems like a whole system beyond Texas Falls. Old country Rd was gated last weekend when I started to go on it.

As far as the ADKs go, everything thats legal to camp is marked on a map. Nice to go to find what the sites look like, but they're also easily attainable knowledge. Floodwood road/Jones Pond/Mountain Pond near the st regis area are probably the best from what I've seen. Especially if you like the idea of waking up at sunrise, paddleboarding or kayaking then coming back in to make breakfast. And listening to Loon. Most of the great camping, as I understand it, is by canoe. I've only gone solo so only done trails, nothing major wheeling wise that I can tell. Someone did tell me a certain dirt road goes for a long time and you see a clearing and its this huge manicured plot. Kennedies dont fuck around.

Sad to have you move @Brownmatthall but definitely game to meet up in vermont or NY :)

Oh and to add, if you get one of the last 2 spots on that granville area, you can fit 4-6 trucks pretty easily. The rest would be a bit more split up.

4th of July weekend there was like some hippie gathering of 500-1000 people in the area though, I think they do it annually. Some ladies were camping nearby and they were invited to come hang out but my BIL and I were not lmao.
