Nah nothing broken… just a fun mod. Kind of a money thing too, we’re saving for a house harder now because our current rental is going to be sold out from underneath us. So I’m being responsible.

I also surmise that a complete regear is something I can do when my truck is relegated to the fun vehicle with fewer kilometres per year and perhaps even classic car status. Given that it’s still a daily and road trip vehicle I will wait on that.

Since I have the Torsen on the shelf, I might as well put that in.

Did you sell your house? Didn't realize you were renting at the moment.

I’ve never actually owned a house, always rented from my parents. Kaley’s old house is rented out finally. So we have some room to make a solid mortgage payment.

How much of that is labor? Might be worth doing it yourself, it’s not that hard

I'm considering it. I think it's $1500 ish in labor for each diff.

Sounds high to me. The true trac should be mostly swapping the ring gear over and then all the bearing changes, backlash setting and all of the stuff that would happen with any regear job.

My regear was about $4500 front and rear, about half was labor on the estimate.

Just do the F/R 3rd member swap from ECGS.. I did my rear a few months ago when it needed a new one after years of abuse. I originally had the front/rear re-gear done at a shop local shop. Now knowing how to do it myself and that its not that bad.. I'd do it again/re-gear myself if I needed to. It saved me a substantial amount of money over having a different local shop tear into the rear end, diagnose, and would have ultimately needed to replace it anyways. The rough quote was minimum of 1900.. up to 3k if it needed a new rear end. I ended up paying 1700 to get my new replacement 3rd from ECGS.. then sent mine back after the swap for a core return charge of 900.. so ~800 bucks vs 1900-3000.

Strange, the shop is supposed to be the best around here, but their quote does sound really high. It was kinda amusing, the guy who quoted me actually sounded disappointed when he told me the total.

Let's play "what's in the box".

Rules: wrong answers, as many as you want. But the last answer has to be a real guess.

@BassAckwards only gets wrong answers, because I already told him about it :D

Hint: it is a mechanical part, not an aesthetic part.

How much does the box weigh roughly?

Can tell the size of the box, can't read any shipping labels.

    I would say about 40-50lbs.

Looks like header sized box but you already got headers.

    40-50 lbs of stickers?

    Exhaust stuff?

    More subwoofers?

    Body kit?

Did you get your custom driveshaft built?

I just realized this exercise is going to give me ideas for more things to buy...

No, didn't get the drive shaft built yet. Got derailed a bit because I might need to pay through the nose for flights to NL to see Kaley's dad, he's not doing very well and this could be the last-ish time to visit with him.

Man. Some people are good at this game.

It's actually not for the Tacoma, so I'm doing a YouTube video shortly showing how I'm going to hack it to fit.
