Lot of variables when it comes to mpg. Here at altitude I get between 15-17. This new engine will undoubtedly be more efficient at elevation.

Well whoever told you that clearly has never stomped the gas on a turbo. Maybe it comes down to tailpipe emissions?

We’ve already had this discussion on here man. Emissions compliance isn’t the same as fuel efficiency.

    Lol! Well there you go!
T4 will roll the tires easier though. After driving a Bronco I was impressed, a lot more punchier off the line. Is it really needed? Is the complexity and upcharge justified? Debatable. My 3G feels more than enough for what I do. (ie drive like an old man)

Back to that pricing , the only thing if the price increase stays generous it must have something to do with how they streamlined everything. Maybe toyota had a heart lol

This engine is most similar to the 2024 Tacoma SR. If 2024 SR gets 25 highway like Ranger, that's 2 mpg better than the 2023 SR with a 2.7l non-turbo engine. But still way worse than my gen 2 Tacoma that gets 27 mpg highway (I got 28 mpg on my last fill-up).

Driving back from Canyonlands to Denver in my 16 this past weekend got me itching for the turbo hybrid powertrain. Revving the engine to 5,5000 rpm and holding it for minutes to maintain the speed limit on Eisenhower pass and vail pass gets old pretty quick.

Ever hear of the Ecoboost? It is everything but, just all marketing bullshit.

It is with anything and everything about “quote” saving the planet “unquote”. Has nothing to do with that, they just want to sell you more shit.

Want to save the planet? Quit buying shit…

There is that. Might be perfect for my “old man” driving style of not wanting to rev the snot out of the engine. So for a 4G DCLB to work me, seat covers and a Goose Gear rear seat delete. lol!

I like keeping the revs lower myself. The fact that the 3.5 makes most of its usable power above 3k has always been tiresome to me. When I drove the 2.4 in the new highlander it was happy sitting 2300 rpm on the same passes and it delivered nice smooth feeling power. We'll see how it does in the 4g with a little hybrid boost and tuned for truck use. That being said the 3.5 is actually not bad at sea level. Driving in southern California this engine is a treat. Feels like a kid with asthma up here in the rockies haha.

Make a NA v6 that makes 310/390 in a 4500lb truck and I bet the mileage will be worse

Can't mix actual vs. EPA. 2nd gen 2.7L 4x2 was rated at 25 mpg highway by 2015 (since the EPA rating system got "tougher" as the years went by).

Toyota (and all other automakers) care about EPA ratings more than real-world numbers. It's also about "corporate average" fuel economy, i.e. they focus on improving fuel economy of high-volume models. The 2.7L was so anemic that very few people bought it. In smaller markets like Canada, the 2.7L was dropped 4 years ago.

Of course. Probably 1 mpg worse.

Live at 2500’ feels fine here, with the ECT button on it is too punchy, mind you I don’t go over 50 during the commute and it is mostly flat. Highest pass I normally drive up into the mountains is 8700’, usually fully loaded, pulling an open moto trailer and still feels pretty good. That said, in the market for a camp trailer. Have been in enough gnarly head winds fully loaded to know the 3.5 wouldn’t be the best. The T4 would certainly outshine it.

My buddy’s F150 5.0 V8 pulling a 6X12 was definitely revvy, almost or just as bad as the Taco V6. Same with my other friend’s F350 7.3 gasser pulling his 5th Wheel, has a ton of torque, however when loaded any NA engine is going to rev to the moon.

They're on the wrong end of the propaganda machine. Must promote the 2025 Camry before the Tacoma.

Apparently the upcoming Camry will only be offered as a hybrid 4-cyl.

Im guessing the off-road has the large increase because there won’t be a 2wd or access cab option for that trim anymore… that’s kind of what the Prerunner is now. If the $39,500 price ends up being true I’m guessing that’s for the base OR with manual which is better than I expected… especially since it looks like the SR with 4x4, doublecab, and the more powerful manual drivetrain is probably going to be around $36k based off the nearly 30k starting price.

Better buy your 2.4t Tacomas quick, the writing is on the wall that Toyota is headed to hybrid and bev only

    2025 Camry hybrid only
    Sequia hybrid only
