Who is going for year 1 vs waiting for later year gen 4?

Only way I’d bite on the first year 4G is if they have 1-2 on the lot to test drive and I could get one in my preferred color/config in 2-4 weeks at MSRP or below. And we know that ain’t going to happen.

 

You’ll know the answer to that when the owners manual is published.

 

I dunno. Some 16-17s have been rock solid and some 2023s needed new engines…

I bought a 1st year 2nd Gen Tacoma in 2004 (2005 model). Never had a daaamn problem. Best vehicle ever, and I drove it for 17 years. I've learned that people with problems about something (not just Tacomas), are always the most vocal and noisy (I include myself when it happens to me). I am sure the huge majority of 1st-Year Toyota vehicles are trouble-free, or can be fixed through warranty. Only the small minority that have a problem are normally heard of at dealers and internet forums, and we get the false impression that they are all bad.
If I were to buy a Tacoma now, I'd wait for the 2024 and be the first at the dealer to snatch the first 2024 Sport 4x4 (because they don't make the XRunner).

IF and thats a big if...I buy a 4th gen it would be year 4 or 5 model year.

 

How was your 2016?

 

It wasn't too bad, but definitely not as good and refined as my current 2020...(can't figure out how to change the truck in settings) They were similar but I could tell there some little things that were improved from 2016. Wind noise being one of them and just quieter in general.

With some of the new systems on this new one, I figure it's not a bad idea to let them shake them out for a few years. I thought I wanted a Tundra when they first came out and would have traded the little truck for the big one if they had not been so hideous to me...I feel like I dodge potential bullet on that one. So its made me a little more gun shy than normal on first year stuff.

 

Anyone who does not buy Tacoma right now and misses V6 is stupid. This is last year to get a Toyota truck with a V6.. Aside from legendary 4runner. No, don't say anything about Tundra's blown up Turbo V6 , big trucks need big engines. Tundra dumped V8 and ended up bad.
