After a good run, he will lay in the grass and play with his ball. Smells like grass and is super soft.

I would not let your dog bite you.

if you aren’t familiar with the training requirements, I would strongly urge that you look into it. Maybe attend a class or two without your dog. All I can say is a bite trained dog is a loaded gun.

We don’t talk a lot about breeds and how they can affect things like home owner’s insurance but they do affect rates as does any dog with bite training. Definitely ask about that. The other part is if you have to surrender the dog, it’s pretty much a death sentence. Not a lot of folks understand the effort that goes into training and finding someone who can take the dog is difficult.

I don’t want to discourage you from pursuing it because along with all the other parts of training, like agility, it’s a lot of fun. But it is a big commitment and responsibility.

Oh yea we get it but where we live ins. rate no issue we have had her trained and had her since she was 9 weeks old. But I do appreciate your advise you are correct in everything you said. Matter of fact I am going by the trainers facility today.

Cool. The reason I mentioned insurance has mostly to do with people that come to your house. Like delivery people, trades, and even guests. A dog bite can leave someone with a pretty hefty doctor bill. A great example would be one of my coworkers at the time was rewarding the dog and ran his hand down the side of the dog. Ended up in the ER having the tendons in his arm checked—the doctor called me over and said “hey, watch this!” As he tugged on the tendon and got his finger to move. Definitely not a normal environment but it does demonstrate how quickly (and innocently) a bite can happen.

Checked that out b/4 we decided on what breed we were getting. But in NC no need with our home owners ins., and we don't have many visitors living WFOY. We have complete control of her and if she is out we are with her. As I said b/4 she has been professionally trained. I don't let people bend down to greet either as the dog could preceive it as a threat because most people are smiling and showing teeth. I don't know how old you are but years ago pitbulls got a bad wrap for attacking kids. As the kids would go up at face level arms spread and smiling(threat) to dogs.

Pits still have a bad rap along with dobermans and rotties. Some shelters do not adopt them out without performing a reference check. A friend adopted the sweetest rotty mix and they called for a reference check.

It's interesting how it's changed over the years. In the 80s it was like everyone was afraid of Dobermans, 90s it was Rottweilers, and 2000s have been Pits. I'm sure media/movies etc. has a lot to do with it. I've worked with a lot of Pits at a rescue I used to volunteer photography for some years ago, they were the sweetest dogs. Some had been through absolute hell and once they were no longer in that environment it was like all they wanted was love.

Chihuahuas on the other hand, gotta watch out

Ya know as a Malinois owner we cringe when ever a movie comes out with 1 in it. Everyone wants 1 cause they are so trainable. But you gotta put the time in to get them there, where you want them to be.
