Hi, just purchased an 03 2.7l 4wd auto xtra cab with 80k miles and a crashed windshield/body damage from a tree falling on it it seems. Got it from copart and the truck has plenty of rust which has caused a mess in the rear of the truck. The backing plate is rusted and e brake is not connected at all which I would like to fix.
could anyone with an 03-04 axle post a picture of their e brake setup in the rear of the truck specifically over the axle housing? I think I’ll need to fab up some brackets for the housing since they seem to be all rusted away. The brake lines are horrendous too.
I’ve tried searching for the setup but have only found a single photo and it doesn’t show the ebrake very clearly. I can bend new hard lines for the brakes easily I just want to get the brake situated so there isn’t a massive hole in the backing plate :(

I like the upgraded LSPV :D

Seem like you'll need quite a few things from cable from the cab to the axle, cable mount, ebrake arm at the passenger drum (forgot what is called), and I would definitely fix the LSPV unless you got an inline adjustable.

    Just went through this. IMG_1178.jpgIMG_1177.jpg

They make 2 different orientations of parking brake. You have the style where the parking brake bell cranks are on the lower half of the backing plate, from what I’ve seen- later years, 2001 to 2004, may have elocker rear diff, and ABS, which you have, wires coming out of top of axle shaft where it meets backing plate.

They also make 2 setups for the cable system- one for over leaf spring parking brake cable (no ABS on my truck, bell cranks on top half of backing plate), which were easy to find, vs the under leaf spring.

My '03 extended, stock with no lift, looks a little different than yours but HTH. I recently replaced both ebrake cables and fixed up the intermediate lever.

Thank you for the replies. I understand I’ll need to go with the “under” style routing since that’s how my backplates are oriented and I don’t have an elock.

I’ll need to find the axle housing from a donor truck most likely so I can cut the brackets off and weld them on my current axle housing. I’m going to do a manual brake valve /lpvs delete soon enough since I won’t have much load very often.

Curious as to which copart you got it from and what it cost?
    Thanks

New Jersey copart. Won bid for 4300. Another 700 in fees and whatnot plus 1700 for shipping to New Mexico. Truck has 80l miles and needs a new windshield and some body work

    Thanks for the reply.
As my truck approaches 300k miles I'm starting to look for a spare drive train (just to be safe).
Buying a complete truck may be the way to go.
    Good luck with your project.

Do you happen to have the part numbers for the cables you replaced? I don’t think I have any of the cables except the one that attaches to the handle in the cab. I found the part for the intermediate lever but can’t find the right ebrake cables. There’s multiple types

Been a few months and had to go back and look at the orders. I can't guarantee fitment on yours, but my front cable was 46410-3D010 and the rear cable was 46420-35740.

My 2002 with e locker and ABS looks exactly like the first picture, over the leaf springs. I noticed that boot on mine is torn but not sure if that is a reason to change the whole thing.
