Has anyone here doing any off roading in Kentucky around the Red Rock canyon?

The ONE place to go wheeling around my moms house is now blocked off! I STG, NYS is allergic to the idea of fun.

Idk I guess they didn't want people going back into the adjacent nature preserve on quads. But they blocked off a whole state forest road.

That sounded ridiculous to me at first, but apparently most of the roads being closed are old mining trails leading to nowhere. Most of the iconic 4x4 routes are still there AFAIK.

Regardless, the 4x4/OHV community needs to start holding itself accountable in these places like they do on Rubicon - out there you'll get clowned for littering or going off-trail, and they've managed to keep trials open in California of all places.

Mining trails are the midwest/east coast version of FS/Logging roads huh. Most of the reason the west has such a great network of dirt and gravel roads to travel is from the logging industry and the forest service subsequently maintaining those roads.

Yeah that's the only reason the Ozark NF has so many trails now. You're never that far away from an old logging road out there.

I totally get what he's saying about finding roads less traveled for some privacy and camping. Some of the most scenic and fun places to stretch your suspension in the Ouachitas are the "old dead" logging trails. They have plenty of main thoroughfare roads roads like Trail 86 that will evolve into a paved highway to connect HWY 7 and 10. Ouachita Mtn trails got the reputation for being boring because those main roads are basically unpaved highways.

It sure was quiet camping at Erbie Campground where SxSs and 4wheelers are outlawed. The only thing I could hear at night was some Elk calls, hoot owls, birds, and maybe a bear.

I'm seriously thinking about going to Cruise Moab in April. This gives me a goal to get the LC ready for a long trip and off-roading. I wonder if its one of those things that sells out in 15 minutes?

Curious, why not just run trails at Moab with a small group?

I ask because you already go off-roading, and you often travel with others. Be a perfect opportunity to set up your own itinerary rather than tag along with a group of unknowns and having to pay/play as part of a different group/organization.

Good Point. I'm sure there will be several in the group that I already know from the Rising Sun club that is hosting and Crawl events in HS. I actually mix it up when I go to CO. The first few and last few days are ad hoc trail runs. Then I hang with the core group of buds from all over the country. Buds from the big groups come to visit me In the Ozarks in the fall. Kind of like a circuit group where we attend each others events.

That's fair; yeah some people love going along those events/groups. Had a friend that was big into that as he wheeled Jeeps all his life, but had Yota's and others join along in their events.

Then there's the rest of us, would rather keep it small and wheel with personal friends :anonymous:

It's especially cool when those big events are events for a good cause.

Yeah I don't get the huge group of randos thing at all. Just looks awful, too many fucking people, and now there's a hard schedule, rules, and an endless line of people doing the exact same shit around you. Cant even imagine the radio traffic. Pass, hard pass, all pass, do not pass go. It's not a vacation or a trip anymore, it's bay area rush hour on orange gravel and rocks.

Do question I am looking at buying a snorkel and it says it is for a 5vz fe (3.4) but I have a 3rz fe (2.7). I found a 2.7 one that looks like the exact same inner tubes just more expensive. Thoughts?
