By the way glossy painted flares are unfortunately common. 2nd gens have them. Jeeps have them, even on the most "Xtreme Recon" Rubicon trims.

 

Meanwhile Subaru’s big secret reveal happened a little while ago and it’s just a redesigned Forester. WTF! It looks like they’ve reverted back to the boxy style of the first gen.

Color matched to the body is fine. I dislike the gloss black flares because they clash too much with the body color unless it’s a black truck.

 

Glad to see Toyota went back to the simple spin on filter for the 4th gen. The cartridge style is a pita. Especially with the plastic housing cover

 

That’s a positive change. I hate the cartridge filter on our 4runner. It looks like it attaches to some type of plastic housing though.

 

It appears to be attached to the oil cooler housing which it made of aluminum.

 

I dont think they are gloss anyway, pretty sure that was just for preproduction

Think I would have Sheldon Brown load heavy awkward shit in and out of the Xtra Cab. Looked like he was having trouble even showing the empty cubbies.

 

Wonder how many accidental engine failures have happened because it was improperly installed?

Last time I got mine serviced there was a guy in there bitching up a storm because of it getting cross threaded. He was doing his own oil changes, sounded like they were telling him to go pound sand.


This is my first vehicle that I haven’t done my own oil changes, it is under warranty, so I am not messing with it. Gotta say, it is kinda nice and worth the $70 or whatever it costs.
