It seems the early numbers were higher but I don’t really know. Here are the current website numbers.

That mileage was spot on for me for city. Hwy not so much...averaged around 18 to 19 but I also drive fast and love to romp on the accelerator. It has telematics so you would get an alert after each drive saying you did XX amount of hard braking and sharp turns, etc.

My G2 4.0 gets 16.5 MPG like clockwork. I was really hoping for 25 (like clockwork) but I don't see that happening.

That’s what my 2016 4Runner gets. My 2021 OR v6 auto (stock) tank average is 18.3 right now. Mostly city driving though some of my typical travel is 55-57mph. Highway is probably 20-21.

I wouldn’t count on a massive improvement with the 2024 Tacoma. If it turns out that the 2024 gets 34mpg highway, that would definitely perk my ears up.

The Trailhunter will be $15K more than an off-road? That seems crazy but probably true. You could do a lot of self upgrades for $15K or use the savings to by a side by side for off-roading.

There is a way to have both power and efficiency, Toyota however refuses to bring it here. Don’t even have to reinvent the wheel either, the tech already exists and has for a very long time.

I’m now thinking that Tuesday’s “leak” was nothing more than some jitbag seeking views.

Build it in Texas to get around the chicken tax, seems fitting.

Run it on biodiesel to appease emissions.

    https://www.toyota-europe.com/news/2023/reducing-emissions-with-hvo100-fuel

You can have it all, power, efficiency and better emissions. A diesel hybrid is going in the Land Cruiser 250, for Australian and Western Europe markets. Make a PHEV version, covers about all the bases, might be able to make everyone happy (I doubt that thought ;):) )

I thought the chicken tax is because it's a light truck , what does it matter where it's built . It has to do with a tax that you and I have to pay

Chicken tax is a light truck import tax. (a teriff really) Why most foreign manufacturers have moved to the US to produce vehicles. US is in a trade agreement with Mexico, is why there is no “chicken tax” on the Tacoma. Was NAFTA, now it is USMCA.

The Highlander picked up 1 mpg combined when going from 6 to 8 spd auto and 2 mpg when going from 3.5 to 2.4 turbo. There may have been other refinements to also increase mileage but these would have had a minimal effect on fuel economy. Based on this it would be reasonable to expect a combined increase of 3 mpg (24 mpg combined) for the 2024 Tacoma. The Highlander Hybrid gets 35 mpg combined but the 2024 Tacoma hybrid is designed for higher power output rather than increased efficiency. A bit disappointing Toyota chose this route but hopefully the rumors of a rav4 hybrid based pickup will be true and appear in the not to distant future.
