What are you running? And what area are you in again?
I got a set of used Cooper Discoverer M+S studded (studs are shot) and I’m struggling after this storm in Anchorage, plus I see another hitting tomorrow night?!

SouthCentral. Ha normally the snowiest part. But not yet, Goodyear Duratrac. Studded & Sipped in 265/75/16.. yes yes I have heard from others bout “Winter” winter tires but up here & in @ least my situation. These work the best. & Gino @ American tire can take care of U.

A couple of the local shops have quoted me for Hankook w429a iPikes in 275/75/16. I asked about Hakkas but I guess they were short on supply this year in truck sizes…

I went ahead with the Hankooks today (265/75/16 studded w429) and so far, it’s a whole different truck. My street hasn’t been plowed in a week after getting 2 feet of fresh snow and it just rolls right through. I highly recommend them.

I had the old gen ipike studded and they got hard really quick, wasnt thrilled with them.

Those look a lot more modern, should do you well for many years.

I used to put 300lbs in the back to help.

I have a Smartcap so pretty close to 300 also. I’m guessing the studs will wear down before the tread anyway.

Thats what happened, a buddy bought them from me and they had mountains of tread remaining but studs were gonzo.

I live in lower alberta so I stopped running studs altogether. Makes 1000% sense where you are.

I just saw that headline. Yeah… ooops. The claim we will be plowed out either tonight or tomorrow. Suuuuureeee….

We would get the same rates of snowfall when I was in NY and never saw the roads this bad.

I would never talk anyone out of snow tires. Their best attribute is on the ice over good A/T tires, especially for braking.

In actual snow storms, a good A/T will get you through deep snow, but if it's an ice storm/freezing rain, that's were the snow tires will shine.(if they are ice rated). Not all winter tires are ice rated....

In my case, I dont do much highway driving and my commute is less than 10 minutes, just about everywhere I go on a daily basis. So my Duratracs with the 3 peak snow designation are the perfect fit for me, hence I do not need winter tires. I just have to rotate them with oil changes.

Check out Mickey Thompson Baja Boss all terrain tires. They are amazing in all conditions! I run them year round.

    This and that...
Pulled the trigger on a set finally. Went with Cooper’s Snow Claw. So far impressed even in 2wd getting out of parking spot since my 4WD actuator was shot. Just replaced that today. But on the highway and mountain pass they did great after our early big snow in December. Roads were fully covered and saw the subaru in front of me go sideways. I’m sure not as good as Blizzacks, but hopefully wear better. Bought a 2016 off-road factory set of wheels for $200 too.

Optional studded? Let me know how you like these - I've been considering this for the next round of winter tires.
