The 35mpg Highlander hybrid is a 2.5l na 4cly. It is nothing like the force max.

A plug in hybrid diesel running on biofuel? That checks off all the boxes. Even boxes I didn’t know existed. Take all my money.

“Running on biodiesel to appease emissions” would require a complete redesign of the diesel supply chain that just ain’t gonna happen. Diesel light trucks don’t sell, that’s why everyone gave up on them except for Chevy who probably will next year.

They pulled the diesel already from the new truck I thought

Much like totally rebuilding the electrical grid…

…like I said probably can’t make everyone happy, and there you are.

I don’t recall advocating for an electric car instead of the 2.4t. Maybe you can show me that post?

Oh, I wouldn’t be bitching at all if that happened. I’m simply explaining that “run it on biodiesel” isn’t an actual solution that makes the diesel a good business case in North America.

There may actually be a future for diesel Tacomas/Trucks in the US. Toyota and other manufactures will keep diesels available for less developed countries (Africa/S. America/etc) while transitioning everyone else to BEV. Which means unleaded will be going away. But semi-trailer trucks and other large vehicles will take much longer to convert to electric (though Elon is working on it). At some point the only available "liquid fuel" will be diesel. That may prompt Toyota to offer their few remaining ICE vehicles to the US.

It could be part of the solution if they want it though. Much like hydrogen.

Toyota already has the tech to run their existing vehicles on both.

Hell, even Turd liked it. He doesn’t like anything. lol!

I was at the Homogeneous Despot today picking up some 4x6s.

I'll tell you what, I'm going to miss my 6-foot box. Not to sound like an old lady, but I kinda wish they offered a 5.5' box in the G4 line-up.

I'll tell you something else: either I'm getting old, or wet, pressure treated 4x6s are f__king heavy.

If I remember correctly it (biodiesel) does cost a lot more to produce and only works best in warmer climates.

That’s a country-level policy decision, though. Toyota isn’t going to drive that change by speculatively building diesel Tacomas.

I am keeping the positive vibes for the new taco. I just hope it is dependable and I can get it for a reasonable price. I don’t plan to mod it other than a moderate lift so I can stuff some true 33” MT’s on it and a front bumper so I can mount a winch.

I am looking forward to the reviews on the 28th, even if they are skewed.

MPG is not a concern for me as I currently drive a 2012 Jeep JK with manual trans, regeared to 4.88 on 35” Mudgrapplers. I am lucky to get 11mpg around town. 19 on the highway at 55mph downhill with a strong tail wind haha.

I had a 07 4x4 frontier with all the bells and whistles before that and while I love my Jeep on the trail. I have missed the “luxury” of a loaded Truck. I don’t plan to beat the crap out of this one. I am keeping the Jeep for that.

Why not? They build hydrogen powered vehicles with hardly any infrastructure. They built hydrogen buses for the 2024 Para Olympics.

it does. Need to have a heated fuel tank to keep it from gelling. Much like EVs don’t do well in cold climates either.

Dunno, just throwing ideas out there, as I do find it odd that government is putting all their eggs in one basket with EVs. Believe it is more about profits off of minerals than anything. Same thing happened with the early stages of the automobile. There were plenty of electric vehicle manufacturers, but the oil barrons won out, and did it ruthlessly.

Diesel was originally designed to run on peanut oil.

the mirai and niche busses are far different than a mass market vehicle released across NA. They’re basically concept vehicles, not short to medium term profit drivers

It could. It will never happen though, but there is a solution to most everyone’s needs and desires, with existing tech too. Plenty of power, the bio-diesel will actually put out just a smidge more, since they have to crank up the pressures a bit. Should get great fuel economy, guessing around 40 with the hybrid. Better for the environment. Won’t be cheap, but what is these days?
