I mean I still have 7 years to go before I hit 40, but still..... Expenses like that would put me on the street :anonymous:

Having turned 40 this year, expenses like that would not be a fun day for me but I'd survive. As you get older, big expenses like that will be a thing. May sound kind of dumb but if you haven't already start a savings account and put away whatever money you can. Future you will say thanks and you won't be homeless. Ally has online savings with 4.25% APY which is pretty nice to help grow rainy day funds (or at least keep them from getting eaten up by inflation).

On the other hand, if you spend enough of those funds doing Taco mods instead of the smart life decisions and you end up on the street, then if you properly built your Tacoma up enough it won't be such a big deal because by that point you should be able to live in it anways lol. So what I'm trying to say is a GFC or RTT may be a wise investment if you don't go to the dentist.

In unrelated news, does anyone want to buy some of my teeth? 100% organic non-GMO free range high quality enamel.

Haha. That's what I was going to say about the RTT.

Buy a house in your early 30's so by the time you're 40 you have enough equity built up to borrow against.

I work in pre-tax benefits and have to say, good financial discipline is important, both short and long term. Nobody's perfect, but there are guidelines that make things easier.

Discussing financial strategies would make for an interesting fireside chat at the next outing.

Have one through credit karma with nearly 5%. That being said, too big bills like that would still wipe it out but every bit counts so here's to hold it together, fellas

As far as Taco Bob's go, everything on my truck since either used or on sale or dental etc. And I have it unfortunately bought anything fun and quite a while. I feel

Not in this car market. Buying a house at 7.5% is just ludacris :bananadead:

True story, one of the best lobbies I was ever in for the original modern warfare 3. Featured a multi-hour discussion with different people about reverse mortgages and various financial strategies. And the guys talking about it weren't half bad players either. Good times

Wealthfront is up to 5% APY now on their cash account. Been happy with them so far.

Some of the local credit unions are offering 5% on 8 month CDs.

Very interesting, had not heard of them before. I opened my Ally account years ago and they always had the highest APY for online-only banks. Appears that is no longer the case. Wealthfront is an interesting creature, appears to have more investing options than normal shadow banks. Going to give this a look but for now I'm not too sad that mine is only lagging 0.75%. My whole point was for someone younger starting a high yield savings is a bare minimum smart strategy versus just doing your local bank's 0.01% rate which is basically losing money against inflation. Or hoarding cash in your mattress which is much the same but also worse

I've seen that and it's quite interesting. I think brick and mortar finally realized they will go the way of the dodo unless they bump them up. It's their own fault of being greedy anyways, they just take our money and put into a 10% ROI index tracking fund. But an interesting option. I've continued with the high APY savings because it stays more liquid for when I want Taco parts on a whim lol.

You're right, what have I started here?! But on the other hand, it's still bad financial advice because we are encouraging good financial literacy for the boring stuff so we can make possibly unwise decisions in buying more mods/parts. But with prices and inflation the way they are, even that may be a good decision now. I'm so confused, think I'll go peruse the Black Friday sales and get myself straightened out!

No point in getting locked into a cd if you can get a high yield account with the same rate or better
