Tundra Hybrid only increases city (by 2), same hwy numbers. Except Pro which only gains 1 in the city and loses 2 on the hwy (bigger tires & lift? more road and air drag).

Yeah I am not sure. There always been a large part of the buying public that has been screaming for better efficiency. [bio] Diesel would cover a lot of bases, power, efficiency and emissions, as a turbo gasser only does two of those. But you are right it will never happen.

Years ago we were told there was no one silver bullet to solve our vehicle propulsion’s energy source problem. Mr Toyoda agrees, of course he was asked to step down as CEO because of views. Not sure if putting all the eggs in the EV basket is a good thing. Though Toyota’s solid state batteries might be the answer.

The bio-diesel hybrid was just an idea anyways.

Modern diesels with the emissions equipment don’t really give a huge gain in cost per mile, though. They’re far more expensive to purchase and maintain, and the fuel is more expensive than premium gas in most markets. The appeal just isn’t there. Even 3/4 and 1-ton class trucks are selling more gas versions and the gap keeps widening

I was being hopeful that the hybrid system would give some mpg benefit.

Maybe because I live in Idaho, diesel is king here. My observations are bit skewed. Most of my dirt bike buds all have diesel trucks, and make fun of me, ask when I am going to ditch my chick truck. lol!

New stations have it at every single pump. Diesel and premium hover around the same price. I only run premium.

Yeah the oil burners are a lot more to maintain.

That reminds me of the badger prototype.

I'm happy to see a steel front diff torque tube, not aluminum like in the Tundra:

Really don’t see the point of the Maverick or Santa Cruz trucks, couple customers at work have them. Had the chance to check them out. Bed is about useless, prefer a wagon at that point and have the cargo space covered.

Rather have this for bare bones basic pick ‘em up truck, probably would never sell well in the States if they brought it here, too practical.

Man if only there was some kind of, idk, panel or something?, that could like, convert the energy from the suns rays which will never run out, into a more usable form of energy for people.

what a feat of engineering that would be.

How did we go from turbos that blow before you even take delivery of the truck to bio diesels?

Interestingly, the water pump is driven by the smooth side of the serpentine belt:

It is the storage of that energy that is the issue. Minerals to manufacture batteries must be mined, which is a finite resource, and not exactly eco-friendly. When is peak aluminum, cobalt, copper, lithium, and nickel?

5VZ-FE is like that, runs off the timing belt. Are sure that isn’t an idler pulley?

A.D.D. & boredom of waiting on Toyota to make the builder go live…

…people disappointed with the T4 gasser not getting much better mpg than the out going V6, diesel would be the cure, one running on bio-diesel might appease most everyone. Power, efficiency, and more eco-friendly.

@OpeCity found some stats for US bio-diesel production. The other was Europe.

    https://www.statista.com/statistics/509875/production-volume-of-biodiesel-in-the-us/#:~:text=In 2022, the total volume,to some 1.6 billion gallons.
