Can someone tell me if changing the belt tensioner assembly is a pain in the ass?
I’m pretty sure there was a discussion on that here before .

Thanks. Any videos would be helpful.
Meanwhile my neighbor will be checking on allparts.com to see if the ac compressor is in the way

It’s a ball valve that takes the place of the drain plug. Makes oil changes quick and clean. Personally, I’ve never been comfortable with the idea but they’re been around for a while.
On my 2nd gen, swapping the whole assembly can be a real pain in the ass, I believe either the A/C compressor or the power steering pump has to be removed first, then the tensioner arm can come off. When I had to replace mine, I just swapped the pulley itself and kept the tensioner assembly in place. Much easier!

Some people insist they are the end of the world since I never off-road in my truck I had no danger of it being struck by a boulder. You replace your oil drain plug bolt with a ball valve. That way, when you change your oil, you simply remove the safety lock, slide the valve and out comes your oil. I have over 200,000 miles and oil changes on them between the Subaru that Tacoma and a Honda fit. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MO8XGmERgUc&pp=ygUNRnVtb3RvIHRhY29tYQ==

For me, it’s not even the off road aspect. Ball valves eventually leak, just a fact of life. Granted, this is a very low use application and should out live the truck but still…. The other issue I have is I hate that someone can turn a valve and drain the oil from the truck. Generally, I feel there are far too many complete assholes in the world and I don’t need to be an easy target for someone’s amusement. I don’t know if that’s a common thing or not, but I prefer not to tempt fate.

I had a 2007. Its been a while, but i remember not wanting to pull off whatever was attached to the tensioning arm because it had hard piped lines. I juxt swapped the pulley itself, easy peezy.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
I did the same thing. I was only changing it for the pully anyways as my tensioner had plenty of life left. It made more sense.

Lemon squeezie  . I should be able to take the pulley off the tensioner, right? Do they sell that one separately?. I guess I’ll just look. I would rather return the assembly and buy the pulleys separately

When I did mine, I bought the assembly. When I went to tear into it, I realized the predicament I was in so I just pulled the pulley from the new tensioner and swapped it in. I’m not sure if you can find just the pulley. I don’t think you could find it from Toyota but you might be able to cross reference some part numbers for just the pulley?

The tensioner I put on was after market and I think the pulley is shit. So there’s that. It seemed ok when I released the belt to check it.

My Camry has the same oil filter and between the truck and car i have NEVER cleanly pulled the filter off. Good luck.

I think log splitter has got water in the hydro tank. I think from the breather because I didn’t have it covered. I might have to purge the whole system and change filter. Changed the oil yesterday.
Going out in a few to inspect it better. See what I can find
