Yup! Fortunately, my son got through me OK. My advise would be: as busy as the business can be, take time to talk to your son, do things together.

Yep all the time. I was raised by parents who were perfectionists. It took me a lot of years to break that cycle. If I could go back in time I would raise my first two in a way where I would have embraced their imperfection and taught them that mistakes are part of the learning process. Learn from it and move on. They are great kids. But I watch them struggle every now and then and realize I set them up for it. Leads to some great conversations though.

    From my FB page:

About a week ago I was on a side street in Phoenix, NY at a 3 way stop sign- corner of Davis and State street . I stopped but not a 3 second complete stop; I rolled through it. No other traffic was around at the intersection and it was a side street that gets far less traffic than other main streets. There was a Sarge around the corner who promptly wrote me a ticket. After writing my ticket he went back to his hiding spot to wait for the next victim. A lot of smaller departments are writing what would be considered a "petty ticket" and routing them directly through the local courts since they then get 100% of the fine rather than a small percentage when going through NYS and DMV. Or at least that is how it was explained to me by family who are L.E.O. You avoid points on your license and rising insurance costs.
Well, I got the fine back from the court and it was $175!!!
I question what kind of message this sends to the general public in today's age of negativity towards Police Officers? Another family member who was a former L.E.O. called this nothing other than "legal extorsion". I am by no means anti-police and as I have mentioned have many family who are/were police officers (both in the military and civilian) and I support police.
That being said- I feel this is an obvious effort to generate income by targeting local drivers. I will drive out of my way to avoid downtown Phoenix from now on and I will not got to any local businesses now after this ridiculous fine. That includes any seasonal events as well. We used to frequent gas stations, eateries, car washes, and shops, but no more- even though the town is just across the bridge for me. I'll go to B'ville or Fulton from now on. [^that's me]

    Well that's a loaded question.

There are no good answers to this. Let them be themselves and nurture what thier interests are. Expose them to the world and nature and they will find a way. Let them make mistakes in a safe environment and give them a chance to try again and succeed.

You are teaching them to be an adult. It's a long road and we haven't even figured it out.

Sure. I would say every honest parent would say that. You live and learn with children just like you do with most everything in life.

My parents were the opposite, typical 50s, 60s, 70s parents. Don't get me wrong. They were good to me and my siblings, very loving. They provided as best they could and always put us first. But they were the hands off kind. There was seldom interference in my life from them. My father was more of the "live and let live" kind. Even with academics, I was on my own. I excelled from day 1 and spoke about being the first in the family to go to college in 7th grade. They always just said basically, "good for you," but there was no assistance, maybe because they really didn't know how. I applied and visited colleges on my own (pre-internet days) and went to the bank at 18 by myself to get my first student loan. They would have been happy no matter what we did, as long as we turned out productive and not a criminal. Fortunately, none of us let them done in this regard.

Well, you either stopped, or you didn't stop and rolled through it. Which is it?? If you did commit the offense you were ticketed for, then I'm not sure I see the justice in depriving the businesses of Phoenix of your patronage. Next time make sure you come to a complete stop!:smack: If you did not commit the offense you were ticketed for then you should complain loudly and publicly to the city counsel, and explain how their police departments policy of writing bogus tickets to boost their funding is going to cost the business in their city any further revenue from you or your family. If you just quit going there, nobody is going to know or care, and again there's no justice.:( In either case of guilty or not guilty, I'd hire a lawyer and fight the ticket, I'd rather pay a lawyer twice as much than pay the government anything. I'm three for three for getting tickets dismissed in court after hiring a lawyer. The second and third cases were for speeding and I didn't even have to go to court. The lawyer went in my place and got the tickets dismissed. In all three cases the lawyer cost me about as much as the tickets would have and there was nothing added on my driving record to cause an increase in my insurance rates. :taco:

First off, I've got no kids and that is my number one life regret. So be glad you have them even if they did come a little later in life. But I think that's why most people tend to have multiple kids. They just gotta fix their fuckups from the first one, with the second, and the third will come along and get away with everything because the parents are just so worn-out from the first two...:hattip:

    jk, but not really...:anonymous:

are you regrouting? if so put the fresh grout in a gallon zip loc, nip off a corner and use it like a pastry bag to apply the new grout. way less mess.

While we’re on the topic of life advice anyone have any wisdom for first time home buying?
Just taking preliminary steps and did online “prequalifying” questionnaires with my bank (checking and savings accounts there for ages), my main credit cards bank (had CC 8+ years, always pay off every month), and the bank that I have financed Runner (paid off 6mo early) Chebby (14 months ahead on payments) and the camper (paid off year early) with. Just curious to see what my budget could be as whatever rental I find now will be just to tide me over until I can buy something.

With the short turn around from renter to homeless you probably can't close escrow so quickly but if you're going to buy, buy. No sense in putting money in someone else's account. And you do have short term options (camper/parents).
