That isn’t a bad idea! I really like that, actually. You can bend it into various shapes, which would allow wedging it below the filter. Smart.

For a 3.4, this is underrated clever.

What’s the deal with the 5VZ? I own a 3RZ. Aren’t our oil filters in roughly the same spot? I know that 5VZ owners have trouble reaching the fuel filter.

Was in the hospital for a while this summer and among the things they gave me were these green plastic bags for puke bags I'm guessing. Bags extend out about a foot and the end is a hard fluted plastic that looks like it will fit over the filter no problem. I thought they might be perfect for the job and grabbed 4 of them to take home. Once they bring them to your room the insurance company gets charged, so no sense letting them go to waste. On my next oil change if they work I'll report back.

I am glad to hear your are home and (ostensibly) feeling better! Let us know if that works :) I might be able to find a similar sort of bag.

Had a '90 Truck with the 3VZ engine - same problem.
I finally said to hell with it and installed a remote filter kit, and tucked the bigger 1515 filter under the front of the driver's side fender, but I plumbed the works with Hydraulic hose, because I didn't trust the rubber hoses that came in the kit. Way easier and cleaner oil change, another quart of oil to circulate, and a way bigger filter for the system.
I transferred it all to my 5VZ conversion years later it's still going strong for the folks I sold it to!

Let it sit overnight before pulling the filter off. I'll bet most if it will drain out of the filter on its own by then. And what does drain out will be cold slow and maybe you can wipe it up easier

It's actually a pretty easy project, but be sure to do the hydraulic hoses - WAY more reliable!
If you plan to keep your rig until it disintegrates, you won't regret doing this one!

Another user in this thread was trying to get me to milk my truck, like a cow. Cheese is more gross to me now than ever before.

I joke but in all seriousness - cheese really does churn (heh) my stomach. My sister would eat a whole container of cottage cheese when we were kids. When I go to Whole Foods and walk by the bakery, I smell wafts of Parmesan and want to die. When I lived in NYC, one of those pop-up museums appeared in Manhattan; it was for cheese. I had friends who tried tricking me into going. Each time, I thwarted their plans. You think I’m joking.

If anyone ever runs for president and tries making cheese illegal, they have my vote. I don’t care if they’re Stalin 2.0. You people had your fun in the sun. It’s time this madness ends. Again, YOU THINK IM JOKING?

Anyway, hope you’re doing well tonight, friend.

Ask your sister to save her cottage cheese containers for your oil changes.

    1. I stopped speaking to her because of her cheese problem.
    2. Not falling for your weak attempt at getting me to have contact with a cheese container and become an addict, like you. Not happening.

Don't know 3RZ but 5VZ filter tilts down towards block so oil always spills out when changing.
Access is straightforward by turning wheel to left and removing wheel well liner -- access from wheel well.
