Looking to pull the trigger on one of these kits. I really just need the keyless entry part function, but I can play with the remote start feature to see how it works.

I’d like to know what the board thinks of this kit with the SR versions. I thought I could do without the fobs, but I just had an instance where I tried opening the passenger door, and it was locked. Keys in hand, I realized there’s no key hole so I had to walk around the truck in shame. :)

On a scale of 1-10, I’d like to know the following things:

    Installation difficulty
    Installation hours/minutes
    Basic functionality
    Reliability
    Customer Service

Also, I believe I found the proper kit:

    https://www.n2designsinc.com/produc...tacoma-plug-play-remote-start-kit-regular-key

    SKU: N2-EO-TOY5-RF-K

Also, I’ve read the OEM installation thread a few times. What price differences are we looking at here for the kit and labor?

I’m pretty sure I can install a plug-n-play kit myself, but the dealership would have to install the OEM version for me.

    $399 N2 Design
    $??? OEM

This brand seems to be the board favorite so any reviews will be helpful.

The N2 kit is your best bet. No cutting into OEM wires. I don't have it, but I know others have used it to get keyless entry. The fobs will work from a long distance too, unlike our OEM fobs...

I installed N2 kits our our vehicles and they've worked well. Customer support is good for installation issues. We have the app and it's nice, but in your case I'd definitely go with the long range fob kit.

They are an easy install, should only be 20, to 30 min install time.

    Looking here:
    https://www.n2designsinc.com/produc...tacoma-plug-play-remote-start-kit-smart-key-1

    it says:
    Operation
    • To Start: Press the lock button 3 times on factory key FOB
    • To Stop: Press the lock button 3 more times while engine is on
    • Parking Lights will illuminate
    • Run Time is 15 minutes
    • All doors, and hood must be closed
    Special Notes
    • The engine will turn off when any door is opened
    • All Toyota/Lexus vehicles Push to Start ignition type - engine will shut down if any door, hood or hatch is opened.
So you can't run the truck with any door open?

SR has key type ignition. Engine does not shutdown when a door is opened with key ignition.

    Keyless ignition. Engine does shutdown.
