    hmm. odd.

    working for a dealer i can assure you that theres no way to write a vin to these ECUs. tech-stream doesn't have that option on the older trucks. nor does it pickup a vin when you connect. so im not sure where they're getting a vin number from

    these old trucks when we replace an ECM its just plug in and go. no programing at all. that didnt start till ~2003-05

    unless they're seeing the calibration numbers on the ECM and noting they dont fit the vin of the truck

    interesting.. they say it comes up from the ECU? Where is your shop I'll bring it to you.. haha
    Not sure where to go from here? Thanks for all the input!

    I’m in Chicagoland lol. Tomorrow I’ll hook up to my 98 and see if it’s the calibration numbers they’re seeing
