Very good stuff. The mizunara oak is very unique and I really like it. Not sure it's worth the $, but I will say I like it as much as Yamazaki 12 (which now costs a lot more).

My second pour. I’m still adjusting to
The higher age statement. I like it, but I’m not blown away for over $160. It’s good. It’s a bottle I’m happy to have open but it’s a pretty high cost of entry.

It’s dark and oaky of course. A little bit of tobacco and burnt brown sugar. Fun contrast to some of the lighter stuff I’ve been drinking. This second pour was pretty enjoyable.

Can confirm it was there as of last week for $150. My girlfriend is a flight attendant and I’m praying it’s still there when she goes in for her next shift later this week.

have not had the cognac finish, but have the sherry and port at the moment, both phenomenal. I’ve been supporting sagamore for a while. The BiB is now their own distillate, pretty darn good

Had some special friends over last night, haven’t seen them in some time as they retired and moved to Florida. So, busted out the KC18 as well to enjoy.

    Update on this:

The source of this whiskey is now widely believed to be Panther Distillery:
    https://www.pantherdistillery.com/home

Though technically a craft operation, they're about the only MN distillery able to contract-sell enough volume for a semi-known brand like Heaven's Door.

Their own label stuff is generally 3-5 years aged and, from what I can tell, not very well thought of. This HD release must have been a contract sale that also specified age and mashbill, as Panther does not have a wheater in their regular lineup.

    It's...good?

The juice is actually Buffalo Trace. BT distills it the first two times, and it is then shipped to Smith Bowman Distillery in VA where it's distilled a third time before aging. Both distilleries are Sazerac owned. In the opinion of myself and many others, the 3rd distillation and different aging location impart a different set of sensory characteristics.

By the same token, John J Bowman is about the closest you're gonna get to 100 proof BT, if that little thought experiment appeals to you. It's widely regarded as underrated and I'd agree with that too.

It is yet another of the massive number of "good value" buys in the $20-$40 range.

I believe you do, and I think you have to show your boarding pass. I wonder... buy a refundable ticket, raid the duty free, then cancel the ticket for a refund?
