why not short body 14s? looks like you went full size?

 

LOL... Where do I order these mythical short body shocks? The only place I have ever seen them referred to is here on TW.

Do I need a password when I call Fox, or is it like ordering off the secret menu at In N Out Burger?

I just did a radiator replacement last night.
By chance I noticed my son's Taco had signs of coolant splash in the engine bay and was low on coolant. Turned out to be a significant leak.
Long story short; it took me about an hour to install a new radiator so he could make it to to his college classes today.
Thank God these Tacoma's are really easy to R&R the radiators.

 

You deffo don't call Fox, they haven't figured that innovation out yet, but you can call ADS. I don't know that they have a short body smoothie in 14 though, think it only goes to 12 if you're not getting bypasses.

 

Ya, I know about the short body ADS. Seems like they made a short body basically for relocating a 1st Gen under the bed. The only ones I saw though were 10 inch (back when I was doing the relocate under the bed). Maybe they have others, not sure.

But I don't run ADS. I run FOX. Nothing against ADS. But I've had very good experiences with FOX, that's what I have run, and that's what I'll continue to run. Their customer service is excellent, and I prefer to have more/easier options for parts for rebuild. I can call up Poly or Accutune and have parts here day after tomorrow. You may be able to do that with ADS, but suppliers on parts are A LOT more limited with ADS.

Also, FOX has changed their product line. Going forward their bodies will be Cerakoted black instead of the raw aluminum. I didn't want the black bodies. Poly is blowing out their "old" stock, so a set of ADS 14"s would have cost, probably, a grand more than what I spent on these. Not cutting the bed isn't worth a thousand bucks to me.

 

Yeah FOX and King certainly have the market cornered for part avail. Thanks to ADS' acquisition by Holley a lot of distributors have their parts now too, helps they use the same shims as King and Kris (shockseals.com stocks their seal kits). But I feel ya on using what you're comfortable with, Fox makes nice shocks.

 

Just custom orders usually. I know King will do them as well.

I now ADS would do a 14'' as I've asked them about it.

Surprised Fox says they won't do it. I swear I've seen people get them for various purposes. Maybe thats like an order through dealers things? Idk, never purchased fox shocks new.

Certainly would have cost more though no matter who you got them from or what brand.

 

Just for the record. FOX didn't say they won't do them. I've just never seen an option to order (even custom) them.

 

Weird. I wonder if they stopped doing that due to wait times maybe and tooling costs. Who knows.

Either way, im sure it'll work great as is. Will be curious to see how much you have to cut out. I'd hoped to do something similar but with a short body shock and no BL.

If you're trying to check wheel to fender clearance then you need to articulate the suspension.
Straight drop can be measured easily with any tape measure.

But it does look like you're having fun!

Checking to see how much shock shaft I'm using at full bump. Also checking to see how much the bump stops compress under a hard hit.
I have access to a forklift so why not. I don't live near the desert. Otherwise that would be more fun.

 

Fog light tabs welded on, took the bumper to get powder coated.
Added some Quick Fist mounts to the topper frame, mounted to the aluminum tube with Rivnuts. Rivnuts are amazing, how did I go so long without them?
Started the process of covering the bare aluminum interior of the topper with backerless carpet. A tedious and slow process, cutting to fit each rectangle, masking, spraying adhesive....oof!

Finally replaced the corolla-sized 99 mirrors with the 01-04 spec, and I'm very happy with them. Comparison image shows a nice difference. They look size appropriate and show a good bit more from the driver's seat. Proper folding is nice too. I also wired up a dual-tone horn and it sounds so much better than the beep-beep Toyota installed at the factory. Can't figure out how to upload a video showing the sound so for now just picture a satisfying honk-honk instead.

Yeah they just bolt in. All the same mounting setup.
