You asked, and so I shall answer.

I have done a lot of soul searching over the last 15+ years about this very topic. I have been burned out in the IT field for many years, and would love to make a change. The top two jobs I would love to have would be:
* Homicide Investigator
* Assistant DA / Prosecutor, then eventually a law professor

Due to the spinal cord injury I had in 2007, I am not physically capable of getting into, or making it through a police Academy, so #1 is a No-Go. The next closest thing is #2. I actually did make the life changing choice to go to law school a few years ago, and I was accepted to Hofstra University School of Law on Long Island, NY. I moved there and attended my 1st year in 2014-2015, but I used up all my own money, and when I applied for student loans to continue into the 2nd year (3 year program), I learned that a previous bankruptcy has made me ineligible for life from ever receiving student loans. I even tried privcate loans, and every bank told me the same thing - bankruptcy = No student loans! So in 2015 I had to start looking for another IT job.

Other dream jobs on my "if money was no object" list include:
* Astrophysicist
* Paleontologist
* Medical Examiner

Problem is, these all would require me to go back to school and get one or more additional degrees. Which, as I explained above, is not an option. Unless I win the lottery.....

Well, just getting them back together again would be an educational experience. Chainsaws lack the precision of scalpels.

 

Well....... I am 56, so I am close to the typical retirement age, yes.

However, due to the many periods of unemployment I have been through, I have long ago emptied my retirement savings, and have zero right now. So sure, I could quit working in another 10 years, but I'd be in a homeless shelter real fast, as I would not be able to pay rent anywhere.

I do not expect to be able to remain employed long enough to get our current mortgage paid off (I would be 85), so I expect that at some point in the next 20 years, we will end up having to dump this house (assuming I get another job soon enough that we don't have to move out right now), and move into an apartment somewhere. We had no money to put down on this place, so we had to go with a full 30 year mortgage rather than a 15 or 20. Not the "retirement" I had planned for when I started my working life 31 years ago, but the only thing guarantied in life, is death, so I guess it is what it is.

 

With the wind chill factor it’s a balmy 28* here !

Still waiting on a pre authorization for an injection in my SI joint . Fucking insurance company can’t find the info that pain management sent to them .Pain scale was 9 out of 10 last Tuesday and it’s slowly getting better . I still need the injection .Good thing this is not life threatening . Fucking unbelievable I have called both the dr office and insurance company 3 times because of this bullshit .
