And yet the T4 Highlander is half a second slower to 60 than the previous 3.5.

28.4 is great, but the Tacoma won't be able to match that since it's much less aerodynamic than a crossover SUV (although Highlander appears to be about 500 lbs heavier than Tacoma SR). 25-26 mpg maybe? That would still be better than the 23 mpg highway est for the 2023 Tacoma.

Not to mention drivetrain loss because of RWD. The new Tacoma will gain an MPG or two over the V6 at best. Hopefully the hybrid can get at least mid-20s.

I've sorta decided that I'll probably try to keep my Gen 2 Tacoma going for a few more years and see if Toyota comes out with a smaller truck. This Gen 4 is likely to be even bigger than the Gen 3, which is already 5" longer, 3" wider, 5" taller, and 500 lbs heavier than my truck, not to mention the lousy gas mileage. I don't need or want any of that.

That’s interesting. I have not driven a T4 Highlander but my guess it’s all low end and doesn’t spin up as happy as the V6? I’ve owned a slew of turbo vehicles, a couple that pulled really hard up to 4500 then fell on its face. Small turbocharger = fast spool = wheezing to move air up top.

As far as mpg….I don’t think the 4th gen is going to be easy to get the rated EPA numbers from. My guess is based on the front spoiler. First, almost everyone will remove that hideous looking appendage off the truck. Secondly, they probably had to make that thing so effing big to muster up another mpg or two.
This will be interesting to see what they get out in the wild.

Can see no problem achieving that on the highway, Can get 24 in my 3G (empty) if you keep it at 65.

T4 should keep the rpm’s more steady and eliminate erratic shifting that the current V6 tends to do.

My current 4cyl turbo (car) gets way better gas mileage than my previous 4cyl NA (car). I'm hoping it's the same for the new Tacoma.

It’ll probably be 1-2mpg better than the 3rd gen Tacoma.

I think the turbo GM twins are basically the same MPG as the previous V6, expecting the Tacoma to gain 1 or possibly 2.

At this point everyone needs to just expect the same MPG as the 3rd gen but with a shit load more HP and TQ.

Yep. Same capacities more or less but will do it oh so much better. Finally getting a “truck engine”.

My dreams of a 30+ mpg Tacoma will never come. Guess have to wait for the BEV with 500-600 mile range, the EV motors will flat out smoke the gasser turbo. New engine is simply a stop gap measure until BEV goes mainstream.

    For someone that drives 10K mi/yr at 22mpg vs 25mpg, it's $163 less in gas(gas $3.00/gal)

So 3mpg improvement, @$163 in gas money saved per yr driving 10k mi/yr.

    That's a whopping $3.13 saved a week.

Same or less peak HP, but definitely more Torque.
