Well since it looks liek Football season is gonna be a little late this year I figured we should vote on who is right in this case. Do you think the players deserve what they are asking for and the owners are too greedy. Or do you think the owners are putting their fortunes on the line and deserve the spoils.

Personally I side with the owners. They take all the business risk and therefore should make money. The players are given huge contracts with guaranteed money for playing a sport they love. But I also kinda see the players side. They are risking their bodies making the owners all kinds of money. If they get hurt the pay might stop right there. And we all know if it very hard to lose money by owning a sports team.

I'm on the "I wanna watch some damn football this fall, so they better get this shit figured out" team.

Personally I think it's ridiculous and if I had to pick a side, it would be the owners. They've been losing money year on year while the players continue to demand better pay and better benefits after retirement.

Frankly, I have little sympathy for millionaires who feel they're underpaid. I *do* have some sympathy for business owners whose businesses are not profitable.

I side with the owners.. The game is expensive enough to go see already.. If the players get their way, prices are going to go up. Let's be honest here. They are getting paid insane amounts of money to play a GAME.

This. I think they all make a shit ton of money though. I doubt there's any owners out there in the poor house. If they're not making enough money, that means your team sucks and no one wants to come watch them play or buy your merchandise haha. In which case you shouldn't be making more money for sucking.

While I completely agree with the fact they're getting paid millions to play a game, in this day and age, you unfortunately can't look at it that way anymore. They're entertainers. No different than an actor getting paid $1 million an episode in a tv show.

There are some teams that are a lot less profitable than others.. It all depends on the market.

    ^^this

You can't tell me that the players, after years of playing football, are surprised that their bodies are beat to hell. If I can set money aside for retirement, life insurance, etc, they sure as HELL can do the same with their millions.

That's what happens when you throw millions at a 22 year old. I agree, it's not a difficult concept to show a little responsibility first and make sure you've got your future secured. Only takes one hit to end your career. That's one thing I do like about baseball, you gotta earn your money vs. getting a huge contract based on what you did in college that may or may not translate to results in the NFL.

Exactly. If they get hurt then that is on them. They get paid a lot of money and should be able to save some of that money if they do get hurt or for when they retire. If they have no money after they are done playing than that is their own fault.

The last NFL game I went to, I went to get 2 pieces of pizza and 2 diet cokes and it cost $32. If the players make more, get ready to watch the price of everything NFL related go up...concessions, tickets, apparel, you name it.

If you only watch the games on T.V., it may not make a big deal to you... But I would like to see the prices stay the same... At least.

Supporting your company makes a lot of sense when they're responsible for your livelihood.

NFL players make millions. They live better than 99.9% of people on the planet. And their risk is comparatively minimal next to truly dangerous jobs.

Bottom line: I'm not mad at wealthy successful people for trying to run their business in the black. I do have a problem with childish whining from people who already have it better than almost all of us.

Their antics aren't worth the money that gets paid for them now....and they want more??

I can respect that they want to protect their bodies- They choose to play so they can choose to pay for some medical care instead of nice cars, huge houses, and the various and sundry "habits" they have.
