I dont think a single group 24 FLA battery will do it if it is cloudy and also like 80. To get the approximate amp hours you can take this reserve capacity(RC) number you do this. depth of discharge(DOD). (RC/60)*25 * DOD

So for this it equals out to about 20 amp hours or 240 WH using a 50% dod which I think might be lower sense it is a normal FLA not AGM.

Based on this math I would not willing to risk my beer getting warm on camping trips but you do you.

My plan is to run the stock battery until it's cooked, it's from 2019 so I only probably have another couple years ANYWAY, then get a 27F AGM (my MPPT controller can get up to the 13.5 or whatever volts for AGM without needing to do anything with the ECU). I've seen a bunch of people run fridges on overnights on the stock battery without a problem, and I just messaged another user who uses an 85W hood panel and a 27F battery for a Dometic.

I think it might be dicey at first with the stock battery alone, but ultimately landing on an AGM 27F (which is $$$, but cheaper than a dual battery setup AND a 27F AGM :D ) with the 100W panel I think will keep up.

Might not be the hard shell I thought I was going to have to pony up for, but a good compromise.

Yeah we are basically doing the same setup. My battery dies so I needed to do battery before solar.

I dont think duals are really necessary for any reason other than heavy winching and being able to trail weld.

I think I will put together a setup but not an extra battery. If someone breaks I can take my battery and theirs and glue the stuff back together.

It's like a popup camper vs a hard camper. The soft shells are cheaper, you get more space, they're just not as bougie. :)

I'll be in my RTT next year a lot I think. Especially if we take the trip to the desert southwest. I'd LIKE to do March, but the north rim doesn't open up until mid May, and we'd go up to Utah and Denver after. So, Feb/March going through the Rockies into Denver is a bit harrowing O.O

South rim is possible though, so we could go earlier in the year, just would miss out on the North Rim experience.

Yeah I carry a jump pack and would have zero issue of someone using my juice for a trail weld. I'm going way more for the broverlanding setup than wheeling and winching, so I think a 27F AGM will be plenty for my needs.

I was thinking just a camping setup, hence the aluminum up front.. Then I discovered I like rocks.

another few out west trips are in my future, after quick 2020 family trip, I can’t wait to get back out there and explore some of those places. The RTT was a big part of being able to go back.
Camping in the desert with no one around was pretty cool. The sky line in North Maine is pretty dam cool, but it doesn’t hold a match to that desert sky

Fortunately/unfortunately, my wife is coming for this one, so every other night with her will be in a hotel room, showers and real toilets are needed along the way.

That's my truck and my buddy's jeep. I pulled forward a bit so I'd have water views :)

I like wheeling, don't get me wrong. But my truck is starting to become a vehicle that can take me anywhere to explore/camp in, vs a prius that can't go everywhere, but is more efficient.

    Can't get these views/campsites with a Prius.

Yes please share, and if driven correctly and willingness to spend to repair, a Prius can get there, you might have to portage it around a few things.

Oh wow......there's a blast from the past that I would like to forget about. I am thinking that she put her Prius into too many ditches and then people just stopped helping her get it out.....

Just sent you the details. Honestly the second one is not prius capable. There was a chevy 2500 that was having a time of it out there. There was one hill that was pretty washed out, and some pretty deep puddles en route. Nothing a stock truck can't handle, heck a crosstrek would probably have been fine. Any sedan would be a no go, not just one with heavy batteries.

First one - no go arounds, one way in, one way out, prius friendly except the last 50ish feet to get down to the water, I think. There might have been some breakovers that wouldn't be fun in a prius/sedan.

I never met her but I know some stories of her. Last I heard the prius was gone, I THINK it was totaled, but not sure.

Yup, that was Harry. My sliders are 4xinnovations and they're solid, cost me 300 for the sliders and I paid a buddy to slap em on. All in I was at least half what most companies will try to charge for bolt on and they definitely perform
