Why are Toyota SR5 grill emblems so expensive?

Apparently the oval Toyota grill emblem on my 2019 SR5 has gotten scratched up from my local car wash...and I need a new one, or a "like new" one.

I've searched online on the "discount" Toyota parts sites...and they're all still pushing $400! I am shocked. Does anybody have an alternative source, with cheaper prices?

 

Have you thought about going to a junkyard and looking for one that looks presentable?

 

Yeah...guess I'm lazy, on top of not being mechanically inclined. But, that might wind up being the ticket.

They pitch them as special because it's the cover for your radar sensor. Supposedly must be made special to not interfere with safety features you can gamble on an el cheapo fleabay or scamazon chinesium one, but no guarantee it won't throw errors.

 

Also, check around for people selling the whole grille. You can find them sub-$100 a lot of times, with the emblem. But a 2020+ won't fit a 2019.

If the car wash is that abrasive to the emblem I can’t imagine what your paint looks like

 

Interesting… I have a ‘21-‘22 TRD grille on my ‘16 TRD and it all fits perfectly. Is the issue due to TSS?

 

The grille is backwards compatible and will fit older trucks fine, but the old emblem/grille won't work on newer trucks because of the TSS.

 

. A 2020+ will fit the 19s and previous, but you have to delete the chrome bezel. Similarly, a 2020 will take any grille from 2018 forward, but you have to add the bezel.

 

Sorry, I was talking about the emblem itself. The grilles fit fine. I have a 2019, and I got a newer SR grille (2020+). When I went to swap them, I noticed the tabs are different on the 2020 emblem than the 2019. So the 2019 emblem won't fit onto the 2020.

 

Actually the paint is fine.
