2024 Reliability / Durability - Believe it or not?

Toyota’s soul is its long term reliability. No matter how good the rest of Gen4 is (coils, discs, magic seats, whatever..), if the 2.4T sucks long term, then Toyota has sold its literal soul to the devil. Sheldon knows this, and legions of current V6 owners know this too.

Much of the turbo-come-lately crowd who disparage the GR series V6’s & call Tacoma owners spoiled don’t mind the switch b/c to them, warranties exist for turbo ownership, and besides, if the 2.4T blows (no pun intended..) they’ll just buy a 2.7T from GM or 2.3T from Ford.

If you own a 1GR-FE or 2GR-FKS right now and like the Gen4, why pay a dealer markup to be a guinea pig? You’re in a great spot to hang back a while and let things unfold. And since we won’t have a choice anyway, hopefully the turbos do hold up after a couple years.

 

Not really, how do we expect to take of the planet if we can’t even take care of ourselves?

This turbo is for emissions right? For “supposedly” a better world…

My grandfather was 350 lbs, went to an early grave. My 25 year old niece is morbidly obese. We like for her to get healthy so she doesn’t kick off early either because we love her. No different than drug, alcohol and tobacco abuse. It isn’t shaming, we want people to be healthy and live a long good life.

How do we expect long term reliability out of the new Tacoma??? as it seems it is engineered to appeased power numbers, the epa and not longevity, nor does it get any better efficiency to lessen the impact on the environment. It screams excess of keeping up with the Jones’s, instead of the Toyota of old.

Oh boy…never said obese people couldn’t be successful or aren’t good people. Worry about their health. Like my niece, I worry about her. My father had MS, chances are she could get it too, her excessive weight isn’t a good thing.

Of course can’t say much of anything these days without people taking offense.

Would have rather seen a much more efficient Tacoma than a power numbers pissing match, going for all out power usually reliability takes a hit.

I’m 6 foot 3 275 pounds. I’m athletic, I lift, and bike, but I could stand to lose like 50 pounds. But that’s never going to happen.

Sometimes I feel like some vehicles aren’t designed for big fat sons of bitches, so I hope that we have enough representation on vehicle engineering teams.

I also find it puzzling why I have plenty of room in something like a 911 or Cayman, but the third generation Tacoma is a tight fit.

I wouldn’t get too offended, feel that way about most of American culture, we are the land of excess no matter what it is, food, alcohol, drugs, consumer goods, housing. It is always more is never enough.

If everyone lived like us Americans, what is it??? we would need 5 planets to supply the resources. Our gross excess isn’t good for the planet. Want to protect the environment, maybe should could cut back on a lot of things.

Most of our health and environmental issues would go away if we took better care of ourselves is all I am saying.

Sheldon seems about excess, not sure that translates well building a truck that will last 25 years and nearly 500’000 miles like my old truck. Apparently some are taking that personally.
