I'd agree with that. The only time I ever use mine are for the same actually. Given my ditch lights are less quality, they aren't much of an improvement over my highbeams; BUT, I can't run my fogs and high beams at the same time, and my fogs are actually really bright and helpful, so I essentially use my ditch lights as highbeams on dirt roads. I don't like them on road though, simply for the hood glare reason.

I used to use my ditch lights as front facing ones until I added a light bar and fogs, but now they are more for deer like big Josh mentioned. If you already have amber fogs I'd just get clear so you can see either side better :notsure:

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I barely have any glare on the hood from the positioning I have. I also had the same issue so I put my fogs on a switch so I could run them the high beams and fogs together.
On a side note, I did change out my headlights to a Morimoto set. I can easily say this was the WORST mod I have done. I can’t see shit and I wish I had my oem lights back that I sold for nothing. The OEM lights were way brighter than these LEDs. Hell I think my low beam was brighter than my high beams with these LEDs. There is also a horrible cutoff line, in which the light just simply isn’t there.

I encourage you all to keep your oem lights. I am sure that the OEM LEDs are much better. Which will be the way I most likely go. Or I will just buy another oem set.

Yes, OEM lights are the best for these trucks. There is a thread around here about lights/upgrades/new harness/etc. - I just looked for it and can't find it. I'll post it here when I do. Well worth reading - lots of good info.

I modified my fog wiring, so I can turn them on anytime.

I could be talked into a trade or outright sale for my OEM halogens. They do have some broken tabs, but I already have the required replacement tabs and plastic specific JB Weld.

You don’t want these bro, unless you have an extra set. You won’t be able to see.

This may be the thread you’re referring to.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/3rd-gen-hid-vs-led-vs-halogen-h11-projector-headlights.589465/

Let clarify. I’m thinking of upgrading to the OEM LED headlights. If I do, and you have any interest in reverting back to OEM on the cheap, my OEM halogens (with the H9 bulb upgrade) could be available.

I am extremely worried that they will have the same harsh cutoff line that my morimotos have.

Can’t say for certain as I’ve never driven with Tacoma LEDs. The ones in my wife’s 4runner are pretty swank.

The LEDs get glowing reviews in the thread above. Whether it’s a $1200 improvement is subjective.

I think 1200 is worth it. Now I wonder if they are better than what you got into the truck…that’s the question.

    Exactly, subjective.

The halogens with H9 bulb (high beam bulb) in the low beam housing throw some surprising light. The color is definitely the most tangible difference between Halogen vs LED. The cliff notes version of crash’s review of the two OEM is that the LEDs provide superior lighting. Albeit not by a landslide, and the halogens do have advantages in certain environments as well overall cost of ownership.

Personally I’m very much on the fence. I’m not sure the performance gain justifies the cost for me just yet, but the all day everyday aesthetics are undeniably sexy.

The current $1200 is with some significant BF discounts. Normally they are in the $1500+ range.

All said, IF I take the plunge on the LEDs, my halogens may be up for grabs. Which I completely acknowledge may be an unwanted product for anyone.

Never hurts to try, I had folks take all sort of stuff I cut off my front bumper when I put my CBI on.

ive had the pleasure of having to do 3 - 5 point turns on a few blocked roads one paved and one dirt both had severe grades off the side and i was thankful to have the ditch lights in these situations. (my lights are pointed to the side and down so you can actually see the ditch)

Maybe its just me but i think amber doesnt cause as harsh of a reflection off of snow, rain dust etc. It makes it easier to see.

It probably is you :p, but my amber fogs don't reflect in rain like my headlights do.
