You might want the mower deck on the tractor for the extra weight when your trying to push snow.

Wouldn't RV antifreeze in the rear tires work too? I know sodium chloride rust out the wheels, but the RV stuff won't IIRC?

I put windshield washer fluid in the tires of my little garden tractor when I was blowing show with it. Worked pretty well. When we moved up to the subcompact, I had a tire dealer put one of the bio products in them. More expensive, but more weight per gallon.

I'm thinking they'd want all the weight they can get. Antifreeze or beat juice in tires, chains on the tires, dumbbells on the floorboard, etc. Snow is incredibly heavy, especially that wet crap they get in Washington, it's not light and fluffy. If they don't have enough weight in the machine to keep the tires planted, you won't push the snow very far.

Yea I barely remember what snow is around here. Been pretty dry the past couple years. Looks like that's gonna change this year... :annoyed:

He’s got a 3 pt hitch. Just build a 2’x2’x2’ (or smaller as that’s around 1000#) cube of concrete that can attach. Simple added weight, will also add balance when using the bucket for non snow tasks.

I seldom get snow in TN either, so I just wait for it to melt. When I was in WA I didn't get any more than I do here. But I was only at 300' ASL. Go up 1000' in elevation and that changes. It'll be snowing at 1300'+ and raining at anything below 1000'. The most popular ski resort on the western side is Crystal Mt. It doesn't get that name for all the fluffy white stuff. It looks like snow when it falls, but once it hits the ground it's not. That mountain will become a huge block of ice after a few "snow falls". I got one hell of a concussion learning to snow board there in '96. I actually bought a helmet before I went back again. F'ing ICE.:annoyed:

I got filled grooved tires, and a ballast box full of steel. Plus a front weight bracket if it has too much understeer.

For you guys not aware they make a tire grooving tool that does a great job giving the AG tires like the R4 more traction

You can use 3/8” long self tapping with 1/4” or 5/16” hex head screws instead of chains as well. I found this very helpful with ice.

No chains here. I got an exposed aggregate concrete parking slab I don’t want to scratch up. The rest is a long gravel driveway

that was anice space saver on standing that deck up! good use of spare stuff!

not sure what eco weenie stuff they put in my tires, but it was heavier & is rim friendly. gained about 400lbs in the 2 rears that way. then my ballast box is 650lbs.
that puts me right at 4800lbs total. none of that matters on ice though.

my driveway is 11-13* angle going up the hill & 300' long, when it ices up under the snow? it gets a bit "fun". tractor did a side spin on me last winter.
caused me to put the blade over on the mini truck & set in the heated cab instead. problem then is mini truck only weighs 1500lbs. super light.

pouring rain here today. getting nothing done outside.

Anyone have experience with the Kubota BX80 series?

I currently have a John Deere x500. It does what I need it to do, but 4WD would be helpful sometimes for snow removal. I have suitcase weights, chains, and it has a locking diff which work but I have occasionally gotten it stuck and had to pull it out with the ATV or truck. It's usually situations where all the weight is shifted to the front and I can't back out of a situation. I've never considered an x700 because although I can get a 4WD one, it's a lot of money to not even have the capability for an OEM loader. Something like a 1025r is a little big for what I do and I don't think they're super practical to mow with.

A BX1880 looks like it's a tad smaller than other subcompacts, though, and the price with a 48" deck (perfect size for me), loader, and snowblower isn't crazy. I'd be using it for mowing, snow removal, moving mulch and stone and such, nothing crazy. It might be perfect for that.

Want to make sure I understand these, is the point to raise the lip of the bucket off the ground a few inches so it doesn't dig down into the gravel/dirt but only pushes whats just above the surface.

while im NOT a JD guy......
a 1025 is an excellent machine for the money. if ya just want a FEL for yardwork & to mow grass, some light tilling. great machine & a zillion of them out there.

    KUBOTA: always been a Kubota guy. have had many B7200's, a B2501, B2601, B3200 & no a c
    k4010. all great machines.

but i wouldnt own a BX anything. these are NOT real tractors. they are just lawn mowers. they bend very easy if you put them in a bind.

if you just want a mower.... ok. if you plan on pushing snow/dirt or any real type of work? skp the BX line.
now lots of my kubota buddys over on the board will cry foul on this. but its just the truth about what they are capable of.
a used B7200 with only 16hp can work circles around a BX with 25hp.... & you can find them everywhere cheap. they last forever.

Correct. Works as advertised. Leaves about an inch of snow on the ground. I even used it for leaf piles on my lawn and didn’t leave a scratch.

If you’re looking for just snow removal, the JD X7 series with AWD has a front quick hitch you can mount a plow. I know quite a few guys who rock that setup and can run circles around me and my loader when it comes to snow removal.

My friend has a small BX tractor and says it’s just a glorified lawn mower with not much lift. He uses it for snow removal and small farm chores and is OK with that. Also, a tractor with a loader on it has a higher center of gravity so you’ll be looking at ballast requirements to keep it upright on slopes. The smaller “Barbie Jeep” wheeled machines also have a lot rougher ride than the bigger tire tractors. I was close to signing on a X758 before I got a loader way back when and that X758 was a Caddilac that climbed a steep hill with ease. They’re made for traction on hilly ground. If your just looking for front traction on flat ground, a little front ballast might just be what you need on your X500
