I'm not sure if you guys are tired of hearing about Versys updates yet, but if so, I can shut up about it.

I drained the oil tonight and it is inconclusive, no overly sparkly bits or pieces came out. I'm going to try and take the starter off tomorrow and see if it jammed or something.

Nah. Keep us posted. Never know if something you learn might teach one of us, or if something that has you hung up will be something others have answers to.

No way, we need to know the ending.....Don't leave us hanging....

Quick question, you said the person you were riding with saw a puff of smoke when it happened. Could that have just been the rear wheel locking up when the engine shut down?

Those bike master's are decent grips if you're ok with the grip itself. I found few of the molded heated grip systems have grips that are appropriate off road, most are fine for street use. You don't notice it in the winter with thick gloves but for off road in the summer they suck. I ended up switching to the heat pads that go under the grip and running my typical style grip.

So the heating element will work with any grips? I've learned more about cold weather gear in this thread than I'll ever need

Yeah, it adheres to the throttle tube and the bar and the grips slide over it. It's kinda difficult to get the grips on w/o compressed air though. Most guys add some large heatshrink to the clutch side to provide some insulation or else the system is trying to heat the bar up too. I ditched those too eventually, I don't ride below 35 degrees these days and I can handle that with gloves and handguards. Hippo hands work well too, they just look funky.
