Funny you posted this! I planned to put this up later this weekend.

I'm planning on going, I've been several times in the past. It's always fun to watch and some really cool vintage stuff always shows up. I hope to arrive around 10:30-11:00 if weather permits. Hope to see you there.

I also had worked up a plan for a Thanksgiving Saddlesore, the IBA offers a special certificate but I'm just not feeling it right now.

I knew there's a reason I love coming back to this thread even though I don't own a Tacoma.

I'll try and make a video too to show everything start to finish.

No, it was smoking as I pulled off the road with the clutch in (tire not locked). In fact I saw smoke coming out of the left side as I was getting off the bike as well.

Also, how much will I hate my life if I get this?

    Definitely interested to see.

I gotta get into my bike today...only working a half day thankfully. Was just looking it over when I parked at work and noticed a sludge accumulating around the oil level window. I'm sure some of it was exacerbated by my crash at the track in the dirt, but no clue what it could be...it doesn't seem to be a very active leak as it doesn't leave any spots on the floor in my garage or where I park at work, doesn't even drip onto the fairings underneath it.

Gonna pull the plastics off and clean it up and see if I can't figure out what it is.

Yeah I'm hoping to only work half a day today so I can go tinker with the bike today as well.

Pulled the Grom out to go to lunch today as I was WFH. Been a solid 2 months since i have ridden the poor thing, fired right up as usual.

Gdamnit, I enjoy riding the lil thing so much! This happens every time, I go eh, I havent ridden it and should sell it then ride it and go damnit that was a hoot.

I will say, im not sure who at honda thought it would be a good idea to swap the horn and blinker from your typical motorcycle standard (blinker above horn) because its GUARENTEED that i hop on the grom and go subconscious for a blinker in the normal spot it would be on any other motorcycle and hit the freakin horn.

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
    Keep it up…the drama continues!!!

    Alright.

    OIL DEBATE!!!! (kinda)

What are yall's stance on oil changes on moto's (or other small motors) that dont see many miles? When do you change the oil time wise?

For example, as mentioned my grom sat for a bit and I pulled it out today for a ride and while oil looks clean and was full, maintenance logs show it hasnt been changed since July of 2022 with all of 600 miles on the oil since then. (which i usually change around 1200 miles as its only a quart).

I change it every 1 year if it doesn't see enough miles.

I agree with the once a year if low miles. I do the same on my taco. It doesn't get enough miles in a year so I change it every summer while it's still warm, lol.

Really depends on the bike to be honest. My 450RL I change every 600 miles or so, whereas my KTM 890R every 3000. Definitely at least once a year though regardless of mileage.

Mine calls for 8K intervals. I changed at 4K and will continue to do so since it's only $30 a pop. Makes me feel better :D

Just like the rest of you, every year. Or by mileage if I happen to hit that in a season. Although the Dyna was just changed with synthetic, and parked, so it can go another year.

    minor tweaks
Took a spin today to test out the Carplay setup I mentioned earlier.

I uploaded a 10mi desert track to Gaia app and used the carplay nav screen to see if I could follow the track offroad without needing to stop and fiddle with the gps. It worked well, there's some features I found useful like making a shortcut on the carplay screen for a contact or two. Simple as hitting a button on the screen and your talking to that person a few seconds later. I could see that being useful if riders get seperated beyond intercom range (if there's a cell signal).

As I hoped, it looks like it'll work out as a generic display for the 500; music, phone and nav. Far more useful to me then the simple mini speedo a KTM comes with and the system isn't too large.

Feels like the bike got a technology upgrade

It was rock solid through the ride.

So, I started pulling the Versys apart and this is what I found:

So, I decided to start pulling the bike apart further to pull the engine out:

I'll probably take it apart on Friday since tomorrow is Thanksgiving. I'm excited to see what the piston looks like.

PS I let the oil sit overnight and when I drained it into another container there were a ton of metal flakes, so I knew the engine was done (as if the spark plug didn't make it obvious enough).

I've only had Hondas and so their position is natural to me. I don't like it on the KLR or V-Strom. Makes more sense down low to me. Lol

Bet there is a valve in that cylinder that is less than straight. Possibly two pieces.
