TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

@IvanhoeTaco, I also had a convertible as my daily when I was 19. Bought it in 1997 and just pulled it out of my parents' garage a couple months back to start a rebuild. It had fresh tires installed in 2012 and they only had 500 miles on them before the 300 mile drive home.


The interior is gutted currently and the seats and door cards are going to the upholstery shop next week while I focus on replacing the top. Then it'll go on jackstands for the suspension refresh...every piece of nearly 30 year old rubber on the car is being replaced with an assortment of OEM rubber, polyurethane, and delrin.

 

That was the s2000 competitor back in the day, is there a place you get get all the rubber from besides oem?

 

It shares a lot of parts with the e36 and e30 so there's a decent amount of aftermarket support.

Unfortunately a lot of parts are NLA from BMW so you have to hunt a bit to find used replacement parts that are in decent condition. I've been booking for OEM headlights from the later models that have clear corners and they are either $1,300 per side for new old stock or $250 per side used and they're totally roached out.

 

You guys reckon this guy’s serious about delisting the spec U headers or just causing FOMO? I’m debating on grabbing a set of them…

Any catch can kits that anyone can recommend that are compatible in terms of brackets and hose length with MP90?

I moved my reservoir to the opposite and mounted it to my AFE airbox along with my oil catch can. I also have an auxiliary fuse block where yours is and did not feel like moving it. I had to get additional hose to reach the pump.

 

Resi mounted, coolant lines ran, pump wired to ignition hot from aux fusebox. Got a call today saying my rotor pack has arrived at highspeedlab for rebuild...its coming along...

 

Nice, I'm starting to hear/feel clunking in my transmission between 3rd and 4th gear and when I come to an abrupt stop,. My trans might be tapping out like head gasket, conveniently around the same time... lol.

Maybe I'll jump on the 4x4 conversion like you if I'm going to be fixing my trans anyway. I think that is the most expensive item out of the list of parts anyway.

 

Do you think its more than just a torque converter shudder?

 

No I'm sure that might be what it is. I'm pretty ignorant on what a torque converter is other than it's in automatic transmissions

 

Nice, I will have a similar issue with my switch panel, as the previous owner fabbed a bracket for it! Not sure what I’ll do with the reservoir!

 

I removed my fuse box and will locate somewhere else. It’s still there but to the side
