Came home just now from a few days out of town to find my fuel cap off and filler door open. Nothing else seemed to be disturbed and I don't think I'm missing any fuel. Kinda worried that someone might have dumped something in the tank. Should I drain the tank?

i find it necessary to put that in any "what would you do" thread. . . . and i would break out the garden hose and drain that puppy. first i would just ask around though, see if there's a reasonable explanation for it. people might have seen.

I cant say about draining the tank, but I would look into buying a locking cap myself. So do you have any neighbors that dont like you?

Ya...think you guys a right about the locking cap. I felt like it was safe in this area so I don't even lock the doors. I Leave the keys in it half the time at work. Thanks guys

I wish it wasn't almost full!

Isn't there a screen in the top of the tank? Sand/whatnot would be in the bottom and not siphon-able out. If you think it was tampered with, drop it and drain it.

If there was a chance you did it, well, I don't know what I would do. The fuel pump has a scene on it; statistics are on your side. If no fuel was taken it was most likely a "drive by".

ok, just read through the posts and noone has beat me to my assumption.... due to the screen thats in the filler neck(or wherever on the fill side) it would prevent any hose, large debris, or anything other than liquid probably from going down. so my 'assumption' is that someone(some scumbag obviously).. attempted to siphon your gas, and when realized he couldnt shove his 'siphon device' down your filler neck, he picked up his crack pipe, strapped up his hightop nike's and took off... just the first thing that came to my head though.. if someone wanted to sabotage you they would probably put the cap on and close the door so it would look like nothing happened

I could not find one that didn't throw a CEL.

If I were the OP I would just drive it. If someone poured crap in the tank they would have recapped it. Im guessing someone needed a Tacoma gas cap nothing more.

I didn't want to mess with 15 gallons of fuel so I took it in to have the dealer drain and clean the tank and they found nothing. At least I know and don't have to worry. Soooo locking gas cap.....check. Haha

    Again thanks for your advice.
