Yay! Congratulations and have the best Christmas ever! It's a shame that fathers so often have such a hard time getting custody--mothers are NOT always automatically the best parent!

Heard that. I took a train from New Hampshire to Indiana to get mine after I won her in court. Met at the station, my ex was there with her new boyfriend. She tells my daughter "give Randy (her boyfriend) a kiss goodbye", I said "nope, daddy of the month club is canceled" and took my daughter from her. That's the last time her (and Randy) ever saw her..11.5 years ago.

Ain't that the truth!!! The "best" parent should get custody regardles of whether it's mom or dad.

Congratulations on the great news. But beware your struggles are probably just starting. I spent 10 grand in the custody battle alone. Then came the years of trying to get Child Support. My ex sat in jail for a month and I was told she was getting out. "How else will she be able to pay? She can't work in jail, can she?" Well, needless to say, I only saw child support in a very few increments. But if I was late then I would have went until I was caught up!
Bottom line is I've had my children for 13 years now and it was worth every damn moment.

    Absolutely correct!!! :)

Ohio is really bad in that department--certain counties are worse than others, but its bad all over. Two of my husband's buddies are dealing with this--good guys who love their kids and would be FAR better to raise their daughters than their psychotic ex-wives, but even with all the obvious neglect and/or extremely questionable behavior, the mothers have custody and the courts don't seem to care.

The problem is the court system they really don't look to hard you just got to keep fighting. Until you can prove the other parent is worthless she finally gave me that chance and I jumped all over it. As far as child support goes I hope I see it if not O'well I know my girl is safe and not going to be neglected anymore. She's 4 1/2 and a year behind so it's going to be a long road to get her back on track.

Bart your story is sounding more and more like mine. We presented proof in court my daughter was given cough syrup to knock her out so the ex could go drink. Proof she had diaper rash so bad her behind bled enough to stuck to dirty diapers. Proof she was locked in closets as "punishment". When I got her home her hair was so matted I had to shave her head, and she had head lice. She would pull the pants down on her barbies and beat their butts yelling "no no no". Was for some reason deathly afraid of water, and if I left her alone long enough to go the bathroom she would start screaming "DADDY DADDY". Her teeth were so rotted I spent 8000 dollars on them, she had to have oral surgery where they removed her front teeth and replaced them with ceramic coated steel.

All this was put in front of this "marital master" who I watched myself pick the papers up, glance at them and put them down on the bench, stamp "Petition Denied" on them.

She's pretty well adjusted now, it was a long long road. She's also a year behind in school now, because of the time she lost with the ex.

Someday, someway, I will meet this "marital master", sit on her chest and force her to look at the pictures I took when I finally got my daughter home. After that, well best of luck to her is all I'll say in public....

I have tears running down my face. I have no words for the outrage and sadness. I am at a loss to know how we can allow these monsters who allow children to suffer out of stupidity and laziness to continue in our courts, not to mention the woman who should have protected her from all that is horrible and painful (I'm sorry, but I cannot call her a mother) doing this to her own child. I cannot tell you how relieved an proud I am that you got custody and didn't ever give up.
