I was all in on a new raptor before the pricing went nuts, the base 2020 model MSRP was around 55k, now it' 80k. I wouldn't mind finding an extra cab 1st gen someday.

Not to sound like a giant douche rocket, but if what someone thinks is going to be a $55,000 purchase comes at $55,100....or $56,000, or I might even go so far as to say $60,000 and it matters to them (financially), then they have no business buying it. This is not to say that they won't anyway.

Came “this close” to buying a F150 over my Tacoma, and it is still on the radar since Toyota isn’t giving me exactly what I want. Good friend of mine worked for Ford as a senior tech, said you can get 300’000 miles out of them with little problem.

Still…after owning Toyotas for 30 plus years hard for me to leave the brand.

It is fairly fugly, but drives and rides quite nice over the F150. Spend more time inside it, than looking at it…so does it really matter how it looks? That and like the ergonomics of it better than the F150. Just the way Toyota lays out the controls, after owning them for so long it is ingrained in me.

Can jump into just about any model, from a Prius, RAV4, Highlander, 4Runner, Tacoma, etc and most of the controls my hands fall naturally on them.

Do like the F150s, but the main reason is the Super Cab’s rear storage. Not sure if that is enough to pull me over, since I could make the Tundra or Tacoma DC work by doing a rear seat delete. (don’t need rear seats) Main reason for the cab requirements is to toss MX gear bags in there locked in the cab at trail heads.

A guy I know who’s a Ford fan, and as an ex-employee still gets really good pricing, has had a Raptor for several years now. In the interim he’s gone through two new Bronco’s, the current one a Raptor Bronco, but likes the Raptor pickup more. I think the early Raptor with the SuperCab and short bed is a nice cab/bed length compromise but I think Raptors are too wide for a lot of western trails. Our 3.5 EcoBoost van has been flawlessly reliable so far.

Thanks for feedback, mine would be a mall crawler, school line pickuper with occasional dirt road on in laws farm and hauling bike to track.

Looked at those too, like them. But Nissans are 100K mile vehicles, then they start nickel and diming ya.

Had my ‘21 two years this past October, just rolled 42K miles yesterday, get to 100K rather quick. Still unsure if I am going to keep my 3G like my 1G, 20+ years and nearly 500K miles. Made my purchasing decision like I just might.

Doubtful if the 4G’s Turbo 4 is a 500K mile engine. (without major repair)

My neighbor has an extended cab 2017 Raptor. If he decided to sell I’d pick it up immediately.

I'd like to have a Raptor, I doubt if there's much out there that drive or ride like a Raptor. I think they are mostly impractical, but that wouldn't stop me from driving one. I haven't noticed any Raptors that don't have the max tow pkg that gives you the dash mounted steering knob for baking, I could do with out that on the Raptor given its diminished tow rating. I'd still like to get a set of Raptor takeoffs for my STX. I had a 21 3.5 before I got the 23 2.7. Still wouldn't mind having a SuperDuty, which would probably win out over the Raptor for practical reasons.

I think an F150 with the 5.0 without start stop etc so I think 20117 and earlier? would/could be a solid choice for a simple adventure vehicle. I have known a couple of guys in trades that have gotten a few hundred thousand miles out of them.

Me either, if I buy a full size it won't be a new Toyota. I would consider a used Tundra.

A full quart is more than a bit.

It sure does have something to do with longevity. My truck is still only 4 years old.

    Looks good.

Hopefully you've got a backup vehicle for when you have repairs.

I think Toyota considers anything under a quart per 1200 miles "normal". I certainly wouldn't be happy with that happening though.

But yeah, that has nothing to do with 10k oil changes. You could just top off the oil periodically.

Drove my buddy’s for a few hours in the mountains and on the interstate pulling a cargo trailer. Liked it. Gotta scream the engine like a Tacoma, though a lot less to go wrong unlike the new Tundra that had two turbos, two air filters, two intercoolers…bunch more plumbing. The gives me pause.

Plan is, get a new truck in three years, my wife gets the 3G. Lots of uncertainty with the 4G Tacoma’s new power plant. Need a few years of sitting back and seeing how that thing pans out, and by that time will Toyota have a viable BEV truck with 500-600 mile range by then? Supposedly ‘26-27.

Thanks, thats good to know. Is there a way around the cylinder deactivation? Thats probably more problematic on the 2021 and newer.
