If you checked your oil and kept it within limits and did 10k instead of 5k, you’d never know a longevity difference. As is, you’re just using the 5k interval to check the level, not to increase longevity in any measurable way

per MT’s old reporting, a double cab sr5 4x4 with the v6 was $35,190 in 2020 (didn’t see 2021). That’s $42,071 today. Gotta deal in real terms, not nominal.

 

I hope they release some pictures soon of an off-road DCLB model. I think the aggressive oversized fenders and bulk on the trail hunter actually help the DCLB look better. After owning a 6ft bed proportionally the 5ft beds look weird to me. All that space sounds great for long road trips and camping out of the truck. With a 3 inch lift and 35 inch tires it should remain fairly capable. If I need a short wheelbase vehicle the new land cruiser will do real nice.

 

Was talking to a local Toyota service writer today. His dealership has had a total of (4) Gen 3 Tundras come through the shop with show-stopping engine problems. He did not know exactly what the problems were, but he did say that they were 4 different ones. One of them required shipping the block to Toyota.

 

Yep. Seen this in the forums. Little things to big things, look at consumer ratings, it’s not great for Toyota’s full size. Think there will be a lot of denial here with the 4th gen and the most likely issues it’ll have as well.

 

Yep, It seems like there is at least one or more blown motors a day. IMO the 3rd gen Tundra as it sits today is junk and a flop. That may change as years go by, but until I consistently see a year model that has almost zero blown motors from bearing issues at 20-40K, I won't consider one.

Who knows how long thats gonna take.

Given your past history, and you are only likely to drive it a year at best, I would not recommend it. Get a Kia Telluride.

 

Yeah can’t imagine it being a major jump. And yes getting a lot more truck. Just like comparing my 3G to my 1G TRD, the ‘99 was more or less top of the line when I bought it. The ‘21 while the SR V6 base model has a bunch more options on it. IIRC the ‘99 was $23K-ish MSRP, so a $10K increase over 22 years is nothing really to complain about. Only thing the ‘21 doesn’t have is a locker, honestly the auto LSD works incredibly well for what I do. No longer wheel hard. Believe it is better for snow and ice, don’t even have to think about it, it just works. All and all extremely happy with the 3G, believe the 4G will be even better even though there are couple nit picky things, but that is with anything. Manufactures have it tough appeasing customers and EPA regulations.

Don’t think the EV movement is about protecting the environment as it is being marketed as, it simply going from exploiting petroleum to exploiting minerals even more so. Though do imagine it will be like when smoking was banned in restaurants and airplanes. Localized pollution will dissipate. Easier to control pollution from few hundred power stations than it is from millions upon millions of tailpipes.

As for the Tacoma Turbo 4, have you test driven one of the new GMs or Fords? They are impressive, feels much more like a “truck engine” gobs of torque nearly right off the bottom. One of my nit picks about my 3G that is a little soft on the bottom. Kinda like comparing dirt bike 2-Strokes 300 to a 125. Three hunnys have loads of bottom end, one two fives ya gotta ring their necks. While an EV bike will smoke both of them. (no pun intended)

Only time will tell if it will keep Toyota’s legendary reliability. Might now have to sell or trade in before the warranty is up, if you don’t want expensive out of warranty repair bills. Guessing it will have head gasket and crank bearing failures growing pains. The old built in Japan three point slooow ate head gaskets when it was first introduced. The 3.4 was the cure.

Raptors hold value similar to Tacomas, we are expecting our first and would welcome the room, Ive held onto vehicles longer than a year, I think I'd hold onto it a bit longer for sure. Not sure about the dumba** Kia comment, I use my truck and have a need for one unlike many here.
