So, what was the reason he pulled you over?
Did he say it was the lights, or for going 5 mph over the speed limit?

100% the lights, and I ended up being given the okay to get out of the truck and show him how I had everything set up. He was thoroughly impressed with my setup.

Yup. Personally I think the Satanic Temple is more modern and whatnot than anything else.

No. But it sound like a cool monster to hang out with.
He can't be anymore scary to hang out with than some people in my family.

    Happy Thanksgiving.

What the hell should I do here?

I am really torn here. First and foremost, I believe that it's my truck and that I should be able to do whatever I want to MY TRUCK. However, it is illegal under Pennsylvania motor vehicle code to put Christmas lights on a vehicle (at least one that is going to be driven). How I went as long as I did without getting pulled over for the Christmas lights is a mystery to me. I would like to say again that I am no way ragging on the Souderton cop who pulled me over on Thanksgiving Eve. He was very nice, and I didn't get a ticket.

My parents would really rather I just only do the wreath and bullbar lights, but I put a lot of work into decorating the truck and don't want to not use the lights. I will only use the wreath and bullbar lights outside of touristy areas like Peddler's Village and New Hope, purely to avoid more unwanted attention, but I firmly believe that this first traffic stop occurred because I was in an unfamiliar area where I'd never driven with the Christmas lights on, and that I've been doing it so long in the Central Bucks area that police just don't bother; I've driven past numerous cops with my truck literally lit up like a Christmas tree in the last five years or so, and have never had an issue.

Given the overall attitude of the cop who stopped me in Souderton on Wednesday, I think he was more interested in seeing my truck up close than actually enforcing the law; I have absolutely no problem with this. I love my truck, I'm proud of the effort that I put into deocrating it during the holidays, and I'll gladly show it to anybody.

I really do not want to end up with a ticket that could be over $150, especially while I'm unemployed, because some cops are dickheads who will write the ticket just because they can. At the same time, I really do not like government entities telling me what I can and can't do to my truck!

I personally don't like drawing attention to myself and giving LEOs reason to make contact.

This is the first time in roughly half a decade that I've been pulled over for having Christmas lights on the truck. In 2021, a New Hope cop pulled alongside me and complimented me on the setup, and I wouldn't even consider this a negative encounter; I was given the okay to get out of the truck and show the Souderton cop how I had everything set up. I think they leave me alone in Doylestown because I know the right people...

    Me either.

I try not to do things can potentially result in a negative experience with law enforcement.
I have nothing against law enforcement, I'll be one of the first guys to strike up a conversation with them.
I just don't like like dealing with them when the outcome involves costing me money and/or going to jail.

I've never come close to ending up in jail, and I am one of the first guys who will strike up a conversation with them as well. The only genuinely negative experience that I've ever had with the police was back in March 2013 when some old bitch the cops on me for taking pictures of old houses in a neighborhood that, unbeknownst to me, had seen four daytime break-ins in less than month; 4 cops for a report of a guy with a camera...

It took me a while to figure that out. Haven't been back to jail in 29 years.

On another note, one of the reasons I make my truck so distinctive is so that it can never be mistaken for a vehicle that was used in a crime, and I won't ever end up getting forced out of the truck at gunpoint...

Could you make a board for the back of the bed like this: /\

Then hang lights on it? Or is it more of a distraction when out in public?

I personally don't think it's a distraction at all, and I never know when I'm going to use the bed so I'd like to keep it clear...

I would just follow your instincts of when and where to turn them on or off, you probably have a pretty good idea of the area's where you will not have an issue.
