Hey everyone! I just picked up a new 2023 Tacoma TRD OR and I am starting to get use to all of its quirks. One of the things that is bothering me a bit so far is the transmission/driveline. Occasionally when shifting from park to drive or park to reverse there is a subtle clunk noise. It doesn't happen every time and it's not so loud that it's alarming, but it definitely makes an audible noise.

Basically, I shift from park to drive/reverse and I hear a clunk from somewhere in the driveline. I have attached a video for reference.

It's brand new so I am assuming this is just a quirk of the Tacoma, or even just normal for automatic transmissions, but just wanted to see what everyone thought.

    Thanks!

You're good to go. I don't know the backlash spec but if you're determined you can do the math to translate from measuring at the ring gear to pinion but don't worry thats fine.

You can hop under a few at the dealer lot and compare but again that's normal

About that much. You're a bit of a paranoid one, eh?

Yep normal. 62869 miles in 11 months. Clunks every now and then. If I was concerned I wouldn’t be in Ecuador.
