Could be its under more stress in a Tundra compared to any Lexus model too.

That too. Lexus owners tend not to tow, nor are in a real hurry. Demographic seems to be a bunch of old farts.

Good news. I’ve just returned from the future, 11/28/2024. Long story about time-speed & gravity, but more importantly, here’s what I was able to find out about the Gen4 Tacoma:

    1. The assembled YouTube experts unanimously agree that this is the best Tacoma they have ever driven. Enthusiasm is so high, that a guy calling himself TRD Jon declares his plans to purchase one.

    2. The new Tacoma is more expensive, and charges more for previously standard features like power seats and blinkers.

Almost forgot, a 2-mile wide meteor may hit the planet. But I can also confirm that the Underground color does look excellent on the OR’s, so, pretty awesome.

The engines for the tundra are made in Alabama I think, there were some of the same issues with the Land Cruiser coming out of Dubai

Being a resident of the state (not by choice), does not surprise me having subpar engines...

After watching “American Factory”. Not sure I have much faith with “Made in the USA” products.

The Tacoma engines are made in the same facility in Alabama as well...

What I got from it was, the lack of moral from the American worker who has been beat down over the decades. The American worker is fed up and exhausted.

    Guess everyone interprets things differently.

Also there was a small blip of the owner saying how he misses the simple farm village life, and has guilt of what we are doing to the planet, all for the sake of profit.

Lexus' sale volume is an order of magnitude lower than Toyota: https://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2023-us-vehicle-sales-figures-by-model/

5900 LX600s sold this year vs. 103,000 Tundras

    Re: C

I’m confused. If they think that the design oil pressure is too low due to an inadequate pump (design), doesn’t that warrant an *immediate* design change?

    Toyota don’t do immediate.

Well, to be fair, the downside of “immediate” is a half-assed, rushed, inadequately tested change.

An adhesive label change takes 2 years at Toyota. It's the corporate equivalent of steering a supertanker.

To Toyota's credit, it eventually does make the improvement, whereas GM/Ford/Stellantis take a lot longer or don't do it at all.

Not necessarily, sometimes they wait until the next engine design to fix things. For an example the 5VZ-FE, needs a timing belt every 90K miles. Went to a timing chain in the 1GR-FE Z.

Received a letter a couple weeks ago that there might be fuel system issue with my 3rd Gen, they didn’t say exactly what the problem was, assuming there is a possible faulty crush washer or o-ring somewhere. Because they stated if there was ever a smell of fuel coming from the engine compartment, stop driving it and have it towed into the dealer for repair. They did not issue a recall, but the truck is warrantied for the next 10 years for this specific issue if it ever arises. So they are letting the dealers fix it, and not doing it on the assembly line.

So far with the Tundra it is only a handful of trucks, now if it were effecting thousands upon thousands, there would be a recall and redesign. They are just seeing how it plays out currently. Imagine there will be some issues with the Tacoma as well. These things are designed by humans, we aren’t perfect and neither are our machines. Always something we miss.

It sounds like the dealers are saying it’s from metal shavings not being cleaned from the engine block during assembly. Not sure how plausible that is.
