Just my desktop computer. I've contemplated upgrading the i5 3570K and GTX 770 but things are working fine (for now) and if I did pull the trigger, I end up at $800 real quick.

Ah, ok… the PC is the media player. I thought perhaps you had smart TVs with PlexTV apps and a PlexTV server. I used to do what you are with an ITX AMD/ASRock E-350. But I have rarely used them if at all.

    Oh the luxury!
In the pantry (36" x 42") cutting a hole for the new cold air return. The new pipe in the attic is just to the left.

Nope. Apparently my fridge had a drip pan, one that is made mostly of cracks. My wife wrote when we bought the fridge on the back, early 2013. It’s been sitting there since then. I guess leaking the whole time.

I use my desktop as both the server and what I usually watch things on but we do access it on smart TVs in the living room and bedroom, a tablet in the exercise room, an XBox in the theater room and my son on his desktop on campus.

That should keep my inquisitive little gray helper from exploring the cellar, she was going for that opening 30 seconds after I pulled the wood out.

Just went thru that with my fridge (hell, we still are) but ours was the ice maker line spraying under the house for who knows how long. I feel your pain.

Hah, the previous owner of my house must have hired the same electrician

Still working on correcting a lot of it. Thanks to a member on here (licensed PA electrician) for installing a new main panel box it has made it easier!

Better than the insulation in my old house in Mississippi. House was built in the 1920's and they used vermiculite, which is a form of asbestos. That and they covered it with some blown in. Combine that with the knob and tube wiring it was a fun attic. That house didn't originally have electric or plumbing when it was built. They put in a bathroom in 1943 as evident by the date stamp on the tub. They basically cut the kitchen in half to put the bathroom in. Luckily I never found where the outhouse was digging in the yard... :puke:

Current house was built in 1965 so there is only some roll insulation followed by some wool blown in from the (I'm assuming) 80's. The only asbestos is in the drywall compound. That stuff is hard as a rock and is difficult to add electrical boxes. It'll trash a multi-tool blade in one cut-in box. Got to use the old school keyhole saw for that work.

Asbestos on campus is horrible. It's about the only thing that can turn a "let's paint and re-carpet this office" request from a $4,000 job to a $15,000 job.

Honestly as long as you're not like snorting the stuff it isn't that bad. It isn't good, not gonna deny that, but it isn't as bad as they make it out to be.

That's like lead soldered pipes and lead brass fittings. Now everything is no-lead and terrible to try and solder. I grew up in a house with lead soldered pipes and I turned out just fine... Wait, they may be onto something there... :anonymous:

We have plenty of asbestos on campus that's in good shape but if we have to rip out carpet and they used adhesive that contained asbestos, we have to have it abated.

I'm drawing up plans for a lab renovation and walking down the hallway to get to the lab, all of the tiles are creaking and popping. I'm betting there will be a rather sizeable abatement project there shortly.

I think that tile adhesive is a low level type asbestos, but I recon in a school/government setting it can be a big deal. Pretty sure I have some of that under some 1/4" plywood in my kitchen. Gonna be a fun removal as I want to replace the flooring with some new roll linoleum this coming Spring. Bathroom is probably the same thing, but the floor is rotten in one spot so it has to be redone. Gonna be interesting with only one toilet in the house and both of us have bathroom "issues"

If we're planning on doing ANYTHING in a room (ceiling tile, floor tile, carpet adhesive, drywall compound, etc.) and any of it is hot, we HAVE to have it abated and if we're doing that, we're almost assuredly going to abate the entire room since setting up containment and air monitoring is the majority of the cost.

It is a huge issue if there's an exposure. The safety office has to get involved and things get messy.

Sometime before I started there they hired a company to check damn near every room on campus for the likely culprits. When a space is abated, the documentation is updated to reflect that.
