is a dam fine buck, I remember seeing some huge Mule deer and Elk in Yellowstone Park many years ago. I have a young buck in a picture just about close enough to eat out of my hand.

I just purchased one of these but have yet to try it out. Had a friend that has one and said it works good. It swivels so you can swing the deer into truck bed or you could just clean it there. After loading mine and my buddies that we killed this year I knew it was time to figure out something different. My age and back let me know the following week

Could always use a 44mag rifle....it has very little recoil at all.

I've shot a 44 mag rifle, and I wouldn't call it a light recoiling gun. I was quite surprised by the kick of the lever action rifle my neighbor had.

6 Arc might eventually be a good option or currently would be if you reload... If not I'm super partial to the .243 but the 6 creed is it's younger cooler cousin I guess. Backfire just did a really cool video showing how much you can reduce recoil by adding things to your rifle. They brought a 6 lb 7 prc down below a factory 6.5 cm

Back in the late 90's I was a fan for the 6.5 JAP, of course I was shooting it in a service rifle. But I came really close to buying a sporterized rifle for my niece to hunt with because the recoil was so manageable compared to anything else I owned.

Ohio opening day of gun season today - Never heard a shot till around 8AM!!!! COLD, windy, snowing.....8:45 AM, Cole (my son) nudges me and says "dad" and points to where I see 2 asses and tails going into the thicket about 50 yards out. A few seconds later I see a 3rd deer trailing them - "it's a buck, Cole" - but his view was obscured by the corner material of the blind and all he saw was a body and ass also going into the thick shit. I never picked up my pistol from on top of my pack on the ground as I want Cole to get another buck!! I followed the deer's progress through the thick shit and kept trying to point him out to Cole, but he wouldn't stop or even slow down to a walk (the first 2 must have been does and possibly in heat?). Anyway, Cole, never had a good view for a shot. I told him afterwards that if he wasn't there, I would have been 'throwin' lead!!!'. The buck went on a neighbor's property where I don't have permission to hunt (the owner hunts). But the previous owner never cared if I hunted there or not.

Tomorrow is another day, but low 20's temps and low teens wind chills expected - SHIT!!!!

I’ve been using my hitch haul this season. Been keeping it in the bed of the truck under the tonneau hard cover till needed. Saves some of the lift but getting a large buck up over the lip edge is still a monkey screwing a football. I have seen some models that have an open side and some with a short ramp. Believe I will have me one of those before next year. I used to be concerned with the public seeing the dead deer and used the bed for an ounce of discretion. Screw that now, they can just deal with the reality of hunting. Saves a lot of clean up to boot.

I had a Winchester .44 mag lever gun in the mid 80s. Not much kick that I recall but wouldn’t group well, all I could do to put a group in a paper plate at 20yds with the iron sights. Put my soon to be wife on a power line stand with it one eve since it was the only spare gun I had at the time. I hunted a hollow behind her and as I came out at dark she shot. Then again…and again. I just pulled up behind a tree till things quieted down thinking she would run out of bullets at some point. She had shot at a group of does at about 100 yards and said it just kicked up dirt all around them. I sold that gun through the newspaper want ads a short time later. She killed several deer since with a .243 and is a very good shot. An uncle of mine used a ruger .44 carbine for some fine deer though.

Maybe this pic will work finally.Attachment-1.jpg

When I was about 18 we hung deer if it was cold in an abandon house where we hunted. This one was stiff as a board and I strapped it to my four wheeler and drove home an hour and fifteen minutes. I had people blowing the horn and waving, probably get pulled over now. This was back about 1994.

That's what I did. Have a lifted Taco with a topper on it. Debated taking if off for the season but was like f' it. Killed Sunday opening weekend. Ran to Harbor Freight, bought a $20 come-along, problem solved.

As to weapons, used various muzzleloaders during gun season until Indiana finely allowed high powered rifle. Since then been using my 25-06 left handed A-Bolt. Still gets the job done after these 30 odd years, although it is showing it's age. Thinking about sending it off to be Black iced.

...and a darn good thing too! I've taken almost all of my deer with a .340 Weatherby since 1996. I ordered it with a brake and would say it's a pleasure to practice with, up to shot 4, it's OK until about shot 8. I've never gone 11 rounds with it. (put me in the poor house anyway) Deer only require one but you have to endure the sound it makes then, Yikes

thanks for that I just looked mine up for the first time. I use a 250gr, Yikes again!
