Is it worth it to get the new tacoma with the TRD off road package? I really like though, the sport package because of how it looks like the same color grille and bumper and hood scoop, but like the off road package because of all the off road features and stuff. What should i get or do?

I need help in deciding what package i should get with my new toyota. I like the off road package because of all the off road features it comes with but don't like the chrome grille and bumper. I also like the sport package because of the hood scoop and the color matching bumper and grille but don't like it because it does have all the off road features. Basically i want the off road features with the sport looks, what do I do and/or how do i do that. Please Help!!

I love my Sport and all the accessories it comes with. It all depends on what you want to do with your truck. If your an avid off-roader I would go with the Off-Road edition cause of the rear locker and other capabilities. I dont off-road heavily so I went with the Sport. But it still holds its own when I do go wheelin!!

Function over form...The scoop is fake and looks silly on a Tacoma, the color coordinated everything is way overdone and the fender flares are dull and don't match the gloss of the body anyway, can you say Tacoma "Limited"? May as well get some real function with your form. but you have to go with what YOU like not the community. I have and prefer unpainted fender flares. To each their own. I don't need a locker but i don't care for the color everything bigger wheels and hood scoop of the sport.

It all comes down to what you'd like to do with your Tacoma. If you enjoy off-roading, get the off-road package. And vice versa.

Personaly, I would say off-road package, because I enjoy the higher function and don't really care about cosmetics that much. But that is just me. Each package has their own benefits. In the end, it just matters what you want.

    You can't add a-trac.

But you can add a color matched bumper and grill on an off road. And in no way you would need that fake hood scoop.

I say all the way, go off road. At least you have some ''go'' with the ''show''.

it is a lot cheaper to get hood bumpers than all those offroad features on the side...

I say get the offroad then buy the hood and bumpers aftermarket

Well since your torn between the two just get an SR5 :D......in all reality get the TRD Offroad...it will be cheaper to buy or trade hoods and get key matched components then changing the axle from limited slip to lockers....

Function is more important than form, but I bought a sport. :)

    Does Plasti-Dip count as a mod ?
Same issue for me. I'm going to get the color matched grille and bumper later on.

If you're actually going to use your truck offroad, get the offroad.

The scoop is just bent metal, it doesn't actually do anything. If you want a powerful looking truck you could maybe find a turbo case and bolt it to your engine. Or how about some exhaust pipes that aren't hooked up.

Function over form, get the offroad if you plan on using the features of the offroad. If its just a mall crawler, get whatever you want visually since you wont actually use the features.

Go with the off road if you really need the features. Depending on the dealership, see if they'll swap out any of the sport package cosmetic items for you. The hood would probably be the hardest and most expensive item to swap out afterwards. Then you could get the color matched bumper, mirror covers and grille down the road.

With your description of intended use OP , get the Offroad package and switch out the chrome and hood at a later date.

As said above... The Off Road package gives you stuff that actually does something to move your truck. The Sport package is totally about looks.

I asked the exact same thing when I bought mine. I too was torn. You have to ask yourself which is really more important? I dont really do hard core off roading and ultimately finding mine (sport) that had the JBL package I wanted so I went with it.

I like the fact that the sport comes with all the color matched stuff, but you can do that yourself. I got the offroad because of the locker and I think it was well worth it. I hate all the chrome but thats all gone except the bumper. (Plati-dip when I get home from ND)!
