Update? They did an update and now it finds out if people are re mapping their vehicles lol.

Just because efficiency increases doesn't mean the emissions of the truck does.

It's assumed when a vehicle's ECU is remapped that the fuel and timing curves are modified thus meaning the vehicle emissions output has changed. Therefore, no longer making the vehicle emissions compliant.

I could careless but this is how the government looks at it.

Exactly, and OTT/Justin have been helpful for many years on here and I’m sure other forums for no cost provided valuable input, feedback, guidance and more without a certain attitude of an unnamed party that was previously allowed on TW.

I am fully supportive of vehicle inspections in CO due to this. Especially for the wrecked vehicles with no longer functioning crash zones and 6+” lifted monstrosities.

Not surprised Massachusetts jumped on board. In general let's just say the living and stuff is about on the level of CA; though given my choice, I think I would prefer to be in CA versus here. At least CA has nicer weather.

I also read that it's not all parts of Adams, Arapahoe, Larimer, Weld, El Paso. I couldn't find any literature about which parts, but I did find this map and I guess this shows the emissions boundary  My buddy said that's why he loves living in Elizabeth!

For now… times are changing and I would place a bet that while, for now, lower population counties are exempt, they won’t be for much longer.

It’s a numbers game, which is why a list of counties are currently exempt from testing (aka “don’t have emissions testing”)

Yeah, there are a bunch of weird things about each county too. I think El Paso/COS is only for diesel vehicles.

Justin (and John) are just awesome honestly.

I can’t go into specifics (yet), but OTT has some things in work that will resolve this for their customers long term.

I edited his post. El Paso county only does diesel emissions testing....for now. Every time the state performs air quality testing we have been at or over the limit.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see El Paso county be one of the last counties in CO to “convert”, so-to-speak.

We used to do emissions testing on gasoline vehicles but the air quality was good and it stopped.

From what I see driving on the roads daily, I would be all in for emissions testing and safety checks.

I can't speak for Tacoma's specifically, but I have ran emissions on numerous tuned vehicles through the years here in Pennsylvania and never had any failures because of the tune unless it either caused an engine light or caused the readiness monitors not to go through, and Pennsylvania was on that list. Just a couple weeks ago I ran and passed a 2018 Subaru STi that is catless and tuned for E85 so at least they have been safe. Will be finding out about how well it goes with my Tacoma when it's due for inspection next year.

When? I’ve been in El Paso county for 10+ years and have never once hasd to get an emissions test done on any of my Tacomas over the years.

What/who determines when testing gasoline vehicles (based on county) becomes required in the state of CO?

Thanks, OP, for this post. I just bought a certified ‘20 and am hoping to get an OTT tune. Since I live in Denver I’ll have a few years to enjoy it without hassle unless we live to an emission free county.

If I remember correctly, it was back in the early 2000's.

Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment enforces our air quality laws in CO.

I could swing both ways. If a vehicle safety check isn't involved then I wouldn't be so inclined to be in favor of emissions testing. My concern is the total shitboxes I see daily totally screwing up traffic even in good weather...let alone if we get an inch of snow. With Colorado using salt with magnesium chloride for the past 8 years, it will start taking its toll on vehicles here now.

Georgia used to have that annual safety inspection crap, but they got rid of years ago. But they did initiate the emissions testing for the counties that make up what they call "metro Atlanta" due to the poor air quality in the city and surrounding counties.

Now I am one of those guys that truly hates government intrusion into my life. But the emissions testing program here is deemed very successful based on air quality data from when it started up to present day. As metro Atlanta continues to grow, I can see them adding more counties to the program.

PS: I hate being right all the time, but I have been saying all along that these after market tunes were going to become problematic for both warranty claims and emissions testing. The tune business owners have been riding the "they cannot detect it" wave for a long time, but those days are quickly coming to an end. Tune away as I always say, but be prepared to deal with the consequences in those states that put the clamp down on ECU modifications.
