Not a Tacoma, but the 2023 RAV4's in Canada are not equipped with TPMS, wonder if this is a cost cutting measure.

I put aluminum wheels on my SR at Discount Tire, and they used my steel wheel TPMS sensors with no problem.

Although I have a 2nd gen, it came with Steel Wheels and I've never had problems transferring them over to the Toyota Alloy Wheels, then to my current Method Wheels.

The sensors are angled different when going from steel to alloy. Hopefully they don't shear them off next time you need tires.

Good to know. If that happens, I'll have to buy sensors anyway and will be no better/worse off than I would've been if I bought new ones when I replaced the wheels.

Check out the ideal gas law, it will help build your intuition for “hot big, cold small”

You could also try adding/removing air to the tires rather than resetting the system constantly, I recommend a bike pump.

    I’ll see myself out…

    minor tweaks
My second gen sr5 just had the idiot light for TPMS, still does. But when I installed a head unit that reads OBD information now I have tire temps and pressure display. I'm pretty sure all the TPMS information is being read into the trucks system on all the models that came with a TPMS sensor. Sensors send out pressure value and temp, the trucks system has to know the pressure to know if it's low. The sensor doesn't send out a "turn on the idiot light" signal. Toyota just chose not to display pressure values on the dash at that trim level and used an idiot light. It's marketing, little things like that drive sales on higher trim levels.

Good to know, I'll have to google the ford firestone fiasco but I'm guessing they tipped over a lot from low tires?

Once I saw that toyota shares data with insurance companies, I turned off all of that stuff.

Exactly. They will work technically. But next time some random tire guy changes your tires youll be left with a handful of broken TPMS and a bill for 4 new ones.

you have the more basic system somewhat like is on our 2008 FJ. When a tire is below the pressure threshold, an idiot light comes on. That’s all you will have with your base model.
