They’re both adventure bikes with similar levels of electronics. That the Yamaha is more reliable and much better for long distance makes it an even better deal IMO.

As much as I love the 390, I don’t want to do valves every 10k miles.

just a couple of things tbh
ya it kinda does at that point or if you can truly get the low cc bikes below 1k then it can be seen as worth it.

and yes they do out here the prices for modded ones usually sit at the 5k range for a bit and then they drop since nobody wants to buy them and they sit and the owners dont want to see them sit anymore.

Second the idea of cbr300 swap! I mean you obviously like tinkering on the little bike…

Otherwise I vote for sell them both. The xt225 isn’t a good platform to throw money at. It’s a great around town and exploring bike in stock form but if you start throwing money at it you can get a much better enduro for the price.

    .
They been pulling that shit a lot lately.
ordered something couple weeks ago that claimed next day delivery.
Next day get the email that it's been delayed by one day. No problem, I can wait another day.
Next day, get a message similar to yours saying another two days out, refund, etc, bla, bla, bla.
Checked website, says can be delivered next day, so wtf?
I cancelled the first order, Then re-ordered it again, and had it the next day.

Not the first time it's happened.

Yeah it’s like if your package gets delayed, it will basically never show up and you’re better off just buying again.

This happened to me last week. My pup's food is on auto-delivery via Amazon, was supposed to come in Monday-Tuesday. Food ran out Thursday night, had to run around to a few stores Friday morning to snag a small bag of similar brand/type of food to hold my pup over for the weekend.

Of course, the original bag of food gets delivered approximately 2 hours after I leave to go camping

All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
One is a light weight getter for a simple commute, the other is a beast with power and weight to match.

I think you’re wanting something more along the lines of what you had. The Yamaha hands down would be a better commuter. You’re not getting busy in the backwoods, in which your trying to specifically introduce yourself to more offroad. This is a commuter, the Yamaha does make more sense.

Oh yeah, I wouldnt be doing much more than maybe tires on the XT225.

In fact, pulled it out of its dusty corner today. Put some fresh gas in it (was stored with ZERO gas) fired right up ran it around and changed the oil in it. Poor thing had an oil change 3 yrs ago with only 20mi on the oil.

I got the bike with a nice pro moto billet rear rack that I put back on to let the creative juices flow. Ill probably end up making a little harness with blinkers that attach to the rack with a 4 pin plug that away if it needs to go back to dirtbike mode, its one plug and 4 bolts for the rear rack n lights. The real question is, do I put a set of Givi monolock hardware ($15) on the rack so I can take one of my 2 Givi 33l trekker side/top cases and use it as a top case (Like i do on my super tenere), OR go ala Grom and affix a glorious milk crate?

I really like luggage so I'd go with the Givi!

That's fair, I guess for others the weight of the ST would make it a no-go. I still do like the KTM, but local dealers are marking them up so much that I don't really think they're a good deal for my use.

I did my first day of commuting on the RC390. Some thoughts:

    - Power - Surprisingly power is not an issue at all. I don't understand how this bike has "only" 40 hp because it feels like a lot more. For being a thumper it is very rev happy and it doesn't seem to mind humming away at 75-80 mph.
    - Ergonomics - Also surprisingly comfortable for being a sport bike. I didn't have any real cramps or pains after my commute
    - Comfort - Despite good ergonomics, having to carry a backpack = instantly not very comfortable. As stated before, I carry a lot of stuff so I was pretty weighed down. I'm sure a nicer backpack like a Kriega would help over my Kemimoto backpack, but I'd prefer to not wear a backpack at all.
    - Wind protection - none. I just spent 2 hours being blasted in the chest by cold air. Not having any sort of hand protection was painful as well, and while heated grips will help, it's still not as good as having both heated grips and hand guards
    - Practicality - none
    - Fuel mileage - it gets around 55 mpg but the fuel tank is so small I'd have to fill up every other day. Ideally I'd have a bike that can go 3 days of commuting between fillups
    - Safety - this is the biggest factor for me. For a daily commuter I want more lights (the stock RC390 headlight is fantastic, but I want fog lights as well). The taillight is so small I'm always wondering if I'm going to get rear ended at night. Plus, since I have to wear a backpack, I can't wear my Helite airbag vest, which is kind of a dealbreaker.

Overall, I still love the bike but it was never meant to be a commuter. I don't want to end up getting tired of having to ride it every day.

I did hit 620 miles (break in mileage) as I pulled into the garage today so I did another oil change. Hopefully I will have full use of the tach tomorrow.

You said it right there. 2hrs on the sport bike for a commuter get old.

If $15 is all it costs to make the rack Givi compatible I'd say that's a no brainer and order it. You already have the case and know it's lockable and waterproof storage.

Keep it old school and go milk crate :D The Givi would no doubt be a better option......just the look of the milk crate says "Fuck yeah" :D

Found my limit for riding. Got to the gas station this morning realizing I was a bit cold. 29  and it wasn't enjoyable I'm sure heated gear would have been great, but I just don't think we see enough cold to invest in that. Maybe if I find some cheap stuff :D
